After the upset win in the Rajya Sabha polls on Tuesday, Himachal Pradesh BJP leaders will meet Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla before the Assembly session on Wednesday.

The BJP legislators will meet the Governor at 7.30 am.

Great significance is being attached to the BJP MLAs’ meeting with the Governor as the budget presented by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu is to be passed in the Vidhan Sabha on February 29, the last day of the budget session.

Earlier, BJP candidate Harsh Mahajan was declared elected to the Rajya Sabha after a draw of lots as both the candidates polled 34 votes each.

Six Congress MLAs cross-voted resulting in Congress candidate Abhishek Manu Singhvi polling 34 votes despite the ruling party having 40 MLAs.

The six MLAs then reportedly left for Panchkula, escorted by the CRPF and Haryana Police.

The BJP candidate polled 34 votes, which includes 25 BJP MLAs, six Congress MLAs and three Independents.

Sukhu accused the BJP of destabilising a duly elected Congress government. He said the BJP had taken away their six MLAs to Haryana.
