Dharamsala, July 13

Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur today visited the Boh valley that was struck by a massive landslide yesterday. He met the affected families and announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh each for the kin of those who died in the landslide. He also announced that the government would provide financial assistance for constructing new houses to the families who have lost their shelters.

Thakur said Kangra district, especially the Boh valley, had suffered extensive damage to private and public property in flash floods and landslides. The authorities had been directed to provide all possible help to the needy. He added that the exact damage caused to the infrastructure could only be gauged after a survey was conducted.

After conducting an aerial survey of the flash flood-affected area, the Chief Minister said proper rehabilitation of the affected families would be ensured. He said a team of the NDRF was coordinating with the district administration in rescue and relief works. All efforts were being made to trace the missing persons.

He asked the Deputy Commissioner about the efforts being made by the NDRF and the district administration to rescue persons stranded on an island in the Giri river at Paonta Sahib in Sirmaur district on Monday.

Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Sarveen Chaudhary, Health Minister Rajiv Saizal, MP Kishan Kapoor and MLA Vishal Neharia accompanied the Chief Minister.
