The Congress on Thursday released a “black paper” listing the “failures” of the Modi government, highlighting issues such as unemployment, price rise and “farmers’ distress”.

The document, titled “10 Saal Anyay Kaal”, was released by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge ahead of the government tabling a white paper in Parliament on the “mismanagement” of the economy during the UPA regime headed by Manmohan Singh. “Today, we are issuing a ‘black paper’ against the government. Whenever PM Modi presents his views in Parliament, he hides his failures. On the other hand, when we speak about the failures of the government, it is not given importance. Therefore, we want to bring out a ‘black paper’ and tell the public about the failures of the government,” Kharge said at a press conference.

The document mentions issues such as “unemployment, price rise, farmers’ distress, failure to carry out a caste census and injustice to women”.

It was Modi’s promise to provide two crore jobs annually and ensure MSP to farmers, Kharge said, adding that instead of fulfilling the promises, the PM had come up with new guarantees.

In reply, Modi said in the Rajya Sabha, “The country has touched new heights in the past 10 years, we take the ‘black paper’ as ‘kala teeka’ to help ward off the evil eye.”
