PATHANKOT
Urged: Mr Ravi Gupta, district president of the BJP, has urged the state government to provide a boat for people living in 22 villages across the Ujj river. He said that during the rainy season, these villages remained cut off from the rest of the district.

FAZILKA
Community centre opens:
Mr N.K. Arora, Principal Secretary, Local Government, on Saturday inaugurated a multipurpose community centre at Fazilka built at a cost of Rs 54 lakhs. Mr Arora thanked Mr Virinder for his efforts in building the centre.

HOSHIARPUR
Foundation stone:
Mr Som Parkash, Deputy Commissioner, laid the foundation stone of the second phase of the sports stadium, being constructed with a cost of Rs 20 lakh at Government Senior Secondary School, Garhshanker, 40 km from here, on Sunday. The first phase of the stadium had been completed with a cost of Rs 7 lakh. He also laid the foundation stone of a post mortem hall at civil hospital, Garhshanker, which would be constructed at a cost of Rs 3 lakh.

Thief held: The police arrested Nand Lal, alias Nandu resident of Bihar near the Pur Hiran by pass here on Sunday. Stolen goods, including a VCR, VCP, gold and silver ornaments and a cycle were recovered from him.

Appointed: Mr Hansraj Nakra, president of the Hoshiarpur BJP unit has appointed Mr Gian Bansal as president of the district beopar mandal of the BJP unit.

Inaugurated:
A water supply project, set up at a cost of Rs 7.50 lakh by Gujrat Ambuja Cements Limited at Daburji village near here, was inaugurated by Mr K.S. Sidhu, Deputy Commissioner on Monday. Mr M.P. Mittal, vice-president of the Gujrat Ambuja, said the company had drawn up a project for preparing "pappar" to enable rural women start their own venture.

FATEHABAD
Nurses' strike:
The indefinite strike by the Nursing Staff Association entered its 38th day on Monday. Nurses from all over the state have been staging a dharna at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. Ms Santosh Rani, secretary of the district unit of the association, appealed to the Prime Minister to intervene. She also said that the nurses would participate in a demonstration in front of Parliament on July 10 seeking conceding of their demands.

KURUKSHETRA
Coeducational college:
M.N. College, Shahabad Markanda, has been converted into a coeducational institute. The college has also started B.Com classes. The Haryana Government thas sanctioned athletics and hockey sports wing to the institute from this session, according to Dr K.L. Miglani, Principal.

SONEPAT
Condemned: The district unit of the Bahujan Samaj Party on Sunday condemned the alleged harassment of Mr Narinder Singh Malik by the SHO of Rai police station. In a press statement, the president of the unit demanded a probe into the incident.


Threatened: The HSEB Workers Union on Sunday condemned the transfer of Mr Janardan Prasad Kothari, president of the district unit of the union, from here to Sirsa and threatened to launch an agitation if the transfer orders were not revoked by the board.

Demonstration: The Sarv Karamchari Sangh, Haryana, will hold a rally on July 10 in New Delhi in support of its demands. Thousands of government employees from this district are expected to take part in the rally.

Resentment: Resentment prevails among residents of this city against the sale of substandard ice by various factories. The residents alleged that the authorities concerned have failed to ensure that standardised ice is manufactured.

FARIDABAD
Looted:
Some armed robbers forced their entry into a factory in Sector 27-C, here on Sunday and took away goods worth lakhs of rupees in a truck. The factory manufactures zinc plates. The police has registered a case.

NURPUR
Bridge collapses:
Vehicular traffic on the Pathankot-Mandi national highway has been disrupted since Sunday following the collapse of a small bridge at Badni near here due to heavy rain. The PWD has started the repair work.
