Dharna
Employees of the local Telecommunications Department staged a dharna in front of the office of the SDO here on Monday in protest against the adamant attitude of the Central Government to implement its decision regarding their demands.

Illicit liquor
The Excise and Taxation Department and the police on Sunday arrested Angrez Singh, Suresh Singh and Nirmal Singh of Ludhiana under the Excise Act, following the recovery of 20 bottles of illicit liquor from their car which has been impounded.

Bus commuters have urged private transport companies as well as the state transport to instruct their staff not to overload buses in view of the hot weather.

AMBALA

Vaccinated
As many as 209 persons, including 85 children, were vaccinated against Hepatitis-B at a subsidised camp organised by the International Sri Gita Ashram in the cantonment here on Sunday. Mr Rishi Mahajan, spokesperson for the ashram, said such camps would be held on the second Sunday of every month.
Dead phones
The BJP National Council member, Mr Ramdass Thakur, said here on Sunday that telephones at the Banola, Ghagas and Barmana areas had been lying dead for the past several weeks. Meanwhile, residents have said Suharghat should be converted into a 20-line exchange.

Cholera
Two suspected cases of cholera have been detected in Gate No. 4 Colony at Old Panchkula by the health authorities.As a precautionary measures chlorination of drinking water and distribution of chlorine tablets among the residents has been undertaken.

Notices to nurses
As the strike by nursing staff entered its 43rd day today, the district health authorities have recommended the termination of services of a nurse while eight others have been served notices warning them of disciplinary action for not joining the duty.

The district unit of the Himachal Pradesh State Arts and Crafts Teachers Union at a meeting here on Sunday thanked the Education Minister and Chief Minister for declaring that C and V teachers would be given benefits under Rule 22 (C), which would not only give proper status to senior teachers but also benefit them financially.
