India opposes US move on labour issue
SEATTLE, Dec 4 —The World Trade Organisation ministerial conference, aimed at starting a new round of trade liberalisation talks, collapsed today after India and several developing nations thwarted a US move to bulldoze its way into incorporating core labour standards in the WTO work programme as the 135-nation body failed to break a deadlock on crucial issues.

Gamang to resign, new leader today
BHUBANESWAR, Dec 4 — The Congress Legislature Party will meet here tomorrow (Sunday) to elect a new leader, Mr Vayalar Ravi told newspersons. The AICC observer made this statement after Orissa Chief Minister Giridhar Gamang tonight announced his decision to resign putting at rest the five-day long crisis in the Orissa Congress over the leadership issue.

Sharif case adjourned till Dec 8
ISLAMABAD, Dec 4 — An anti-terrorist court today set December 8 as the fresh date for filing of charges against deposed Pakistani Premier Nawaz Sharif and six others in the treason and hijacking case after the prosecution sought more time citing a recent amendment to the Anti-Terrorists Act.

NEW DELHI, Dec 4 — A defiant former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Kalyan Singh’s expulsion from the BJP became imminent today as he continued his tirade against the Central leadership, including Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee in his reply to the show-cause notice served on him on November 27.

NEW DELHI, Dec 4 — The government is working on a right to information law to make information more accessible to the people, Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee said today.
