Mumbai girl crowned millennium's last Miss World
LONDON, Dec 5 — India’s Yukta Mookhey was crowned Miss World early today in the last Miss World contest of the millennium. "It is the best day of my life because I had this as a beautiful dream as a child and now it’s come true," Mookhey said after winning the contest.

Govt to amend statute to help SC, ST: PM
NEW DELHI, Dec 5 — The Prime Minister, Mr Atal Behari Vajpayee today said proposals to amend the Constitution to relax the existing requirements and provide for speedy promotion of the Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes was under the consideration of the government.

Blast after Farooq leaves venue
SRINAGAR, Dec 5 — A powerful landmine blast took place near the Teng Bagh bridge, minutes after Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah had left the scene after inaugurating the bridge. The explosion occurred about 100 metres from the bridge at 12.45 p.m.

Army rule in Pak to stay for 'a year
ISLAMABAD, Dec 5 — Dropping first hints on the minimum term of the Army rule in Pakistan, military ruler Gen Pervez Musharraf has indicated that the elections will not be held in the country before the end of next year by when an election reform process is to be carried out.

1000-year-old burial sites
Excavations in Spiti valley
CHANDIGARH, Dec 5 — Megalithic burial sites and remains of pottery have been found for the first time in Spiti valley of Himachal Pradesh. Thought to be over 1000 years old, these are expected to throw fresh light on the inhabitation and culture which existed in this sparsely populated and inhospitable region.

New aviation policy soon
Greater role for private sector
CHANDIGARH, Dec 5 — The Union Civil Aviation Ministry will soon come out with a new aviation policy with a greater role for the private sector in domestic air services and infrastructure building.
