Clare to stop it from beaching at Asia's largest ship-breaking yard at Alang port in western India, on Thursday. The activists seek to halt the dumping of hazardous wastes. Greenpeace says industrialised nations, especially the USA, Germany and Japan, have been dumping hazardous waste in India by having old ships that contain such wastes broken up in developing countries such as India, China and the Philippines. — AP/PTI

CHANDIGARH, Dec 10 — With the Punjab and Haryana High Court recalling its order by virtue of which the panchayat and municipal elections in Haryana had been postponed, it has now become a constitutional obligation on the part of the state government and the State Election Commission (SEC) to conduct these elections before January 15 when the term of the existing bodies expires.

Wife finds man, kids dead
HISAR, Dec 10 — Mystery shrouds the death of a man and his three children, whose bodies were found last night at their residence. According to the police sources, Suresh Kumar Soni, a resident of Gandhi Colony in the Mill Gate area, was found hanging from a ceiling fan, while his three children, including two daughters, were lying dead on the floor.

India to build bunkers near Kargil
NEW DELHI, Dec 10 — In order to provide greater security to people living in the border districts of Kargil, the Centre had granted Rs 4 crore for the construction of bunkers.
