Expectant mother shot

ROHTAK, Dec 18 — A young married woman was killed and her teenaged sister injured when a youth opened fire at them at their house in the Prem Nagar locality here yesterday. The accused, reported to be a 17-year-old student, was nabbed by residents and handed over to the police.

According to the police and members of the family of the deceased, the incident took place at 6 p.m. According to reports, the accused, who had a verbal duel with the parents and brother of the girl over alleged eve-teasing by him earlier in the day, came to their house with a double barrel gun and opened fire at Sharmili when she opened the gate.

The accused, Sudhir, had eve-teased Rani (16), younger sister of Sharmili, while she was coming back from school. Sudhir is reported to be a student of the same school. When the girl reported the matter to her parents, they scolded and warned him. Enraged over this, he came to their house and opened fire. Sharmili, who was dumb, had been married recently and had come to her parents' house for some days. She was pregnant.

Rani, received bullet injuries on her foot and was admitted to the PGIMS. Sudhir was overpowered by residents, who had assembled there, and was locked in a room before being handed over to the police. A case has been registered against him.

Meanwhile, a girl of Dakla village of Jhajjar district was allegedly raped by two youths of the same village on December 9. The victim's father, Mahabir, in his complaint to the police, has alleged that his daughter, aged about 17 years and a students of class X, was raped by Ranbir and Ravinder. He said the accused also took her nude photographs and threatened to publish these and kill her if she reported the incident. However, yesterday the girl told her father about the incident, following which he lodged the complaint.
