Pak ready to resolve Kashmir issue

ISLAMABAD, Dec 18 (PTI) — Pakistan’s military ruler, Gen Pervez Musharraf, said today Islamabad was willing to resolve the Kashmir issue through “peaceful means” if India showed “sincerity” but pledged to continue support to Kashmiri militants.

“Relations between Pakistan and India cannot improve without settlement of the Kashmir dispute,” Gen Musharraf told a PoK council meeting here, cautioning that the “recent developments in South Asia have shown that Kashmir is a possible nuclear flash-point in the region.”

Pakistan would continue to extend political, moral and diplomatic support to the struggling people of Kashmir for their right to self-determination,” he was quoted as saying by the official APP news agency while presiding over the meeting.

“It is our duty to resolve the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir under the UN resolution,” he said.

Claiming that Kashmir was the oldest dispute pending on the UN agenda, he said the people of Kashmir launched their “indigenous struggle” in 1989 after getting disappointed over the “inaction” of the world body.
