Indian team begins talks with hijackers
KANDAHAR, Dec 27 — Indian negotiators began talks with hijackers holding 154 passengers and crew hostage on an Indian Airlines plane at Kandahar airport in Afghanistan, an AFP reporter at the scene saw.

Kin lay siege to PM’s house
NEW DELHI, Dec 27 — For the second day in succession relatives of passengers held hostages on the hijacked IA plane at Kandahar protested over the manner in which the government was treating them.

KARACHI, Dec 27 — Pakistani security officials today took in for questioning the relatives of an Islamic scholar, whose release has been demanded by the hijackers of an Indian airliner, the cleric’s sisters told AFP.

Militants storm SOG camp, kill 4
SRINAGAR, Dec 27 — A group of five Harkat-ul-Mujahideen militants stormed the heavily-guarded headquarters of special operation group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police at Halfchinar here this evening and killed at least four securitymen and wounded 15 others.

Hold panchayat poll in Feb: HC
CHANDIGARH, Dec 27 — Hold elections to panchayats, panchayat samitis, zila parishads and municipalities by the end of February, 2000, positively, except in the case of 92 gram panchayats and 20 municipal committees in which the voters’ list has not been prepared.


Kids ‘forced’ passengers’ release
JALANDHAR, Dec 27 — Even as there are still 10 to 11 teenagers aboard the Indian Airlines aircraft hijackers were forced to release some of the children as they felt that wailing kids were a hindrance for them.
