More aid pours in for martyrs

SHIMLA, July 15 — Staff and students of Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Lakkar Bazar, have contributed Rs 24,000 for the Chief Minister's Sainik Relief Fund.

Mr O.P. Sharma, president of the HP Health and Family Welfare Department Ministerial Staff Association, said the association had contributed Rs 51,000 for the fund.

The ABVP has presented a bank draft of Rs 55,577 to the Chief Minister, Mr Prem Kumar Dhumal.

The Non-Gazetted Employees Association of the Planning Department has contributed Rs 23,562.

KANGRA: Vivekanand Kendra here collected funds for the National Defence Fund. The Principal, students, staff and management of G.A.V. Public School contributed Rs 14,200, Modern Public High School, contributed Rs 11,110, Maharshi Vidya Mandir Rs 3490, Government Senior Secondary School, new Kangra Rs 2601, New Modern Public School Rs 1551 and staff of the State Bank of Patiala Rs 1,453. The kendra is likely to submit drafts to the tune of Rs 50,000 to the Prime Minister next week.

SOLAN: Various individuals and organisations sent drafts amounting to Rs 7,95,605 to the Chief Minister's Sainik Welfare Fund on Wednesday. The donors included the Deputy Commissioner's Office revenue staff (Rs 1,22,506) the Beopar Mandal at Baddi (Rs 41,000), officers and staff of the office of the Project Officer, Kani project (Rs 8,830), government employees of Nalagarh (Rs 73,303), the Saproon Samiti (Rs 33,221), the Uttara Khand Bharati Mandal (Rs 9,550), employees of the office of the Assistant Registrar, Co-op Societies, (Rs 9,550), Government Senior Secondary School, Oachghat (Rs 13,100), Block Development Office, Solan (Rs 6,921); Block Development Office, Kunihar (Rs 4,925), residents and gram panchayat of Dharampur (Rs 16,500), District Panchayat Office (Rs 3,700), the District Employment Officer and staff (Rs 2350);

Two school children collected and donated Rs 2,810. They are Baldev Singh Verma of Oachghat and Subhash Kaundal of Rabaun.

FATEHGARH SAHIB: The local unit of the Bharat Vikas Parishad on Wednesday donated Rs 42,553 for the Army Fund.

JALANDHAR: A function for Kargil martyrs was organised by students of St. Soldier Divine Public School here on Wednesday.

Patriotic songs and dances were presented by the students on the occasion. They resolved to serve the country to the last breath of their lives. The chief guest, Mr H.S. Nanda, appreciated the gesture of the St Soldier group of schools and colleges and their students. He urged them to imbibe the spirit of service and sacrifice towards the nation.

Later, Mr Anil Chopra, chairman of the group, presented a cheque of Rs 32,000 to the Additional Deputy Commissioner.

NAWANSHAHR: Students and staff of Government Primary and Middle School, Chahar Mazara, have contributed Rs 5150 students and staff of Government Middle School, Karyam have contributed Rs 3,173 student of class X of Government High School, Chakdana, have contributed Rs 1654. The local Raja Diagonistic Centre and Hospital has contributed a sum of Rs 11,000 to the Punjab War Heroes Families Welfare Fund.

PHAGWARA: Members of the local IMA branch have decided to provide medical aid free of cost to families of Kargil martyrs, according to Dr G.B. Singh, secretary of local branch, here on Wednesday.

Resolving to donate blood for the wounded soldiers, local doctors also appealed to all other 44 branches of the Indian Medical Association in Punjab to prepare list of blood donors and send it to the nearest military hospital.

AMBALA: The locals have expressed their solidarity and concern for the soldiers by contributing generously in cash and kind in the form of woollen socks, gloves, caps and vests.

Prominent social organisations and associations which have come to the fore front in providing aid are the Jewellers Associations, the Oswa group of industries, the Welfare and Relief Society, Yuva Shakti, the Scientific Apparatus Manufacturers Association, the Ambala Traders Federation, the Citizens Council and many educational institutions.

FARIDABAD: A sum of Rs 13.23 lakh has so far been contributed to the Chief Minister's Yudhvir Rahat Fund by residents of the district, according to Mr B.K. Panigrahi, Deputy Commissioner.

The Brick Kiln Association on Wednesday presented a cheque of Rs 1.01 lakh for the fund. Mr Surendra Singh Chauhan, president of the association, said each of the five martyrs families of Faridabad would also be given Rs 11,000 in cash and 11,000 bricks each for building houses. Indiane Gas distributors also contributed Rs 71,300 to the fund.

Indiane Gas distributors have also decided to adopt the family of martyr Sepoy Shravan Kumar for six months and continue to give Rs 5,000 per month to his family.

GURGAON: Students and staff of Government Senior Secondary School for Boys here presented a cheque of Rs 30,000 for the Haryana Chief Minister's War Heroes Relief Fund to honour the martyrs of Kargil and their dependants. Students took out a procession to the Deputy Commissioner's residence to present this amount. Mr Raghvendera Singh, Principal of the school, led this silent procession along with his staff.

KALKA: Residents of this town have collected Rs 55,000 for the Chief Ministers Relief Fund for soldiers killed and wounded in the Kargil operations. Mr Sangat Singh Nanda, president of the Kalka block of the Congress along with Mr Sharanjit Singh, president of the district unit of the HVP, collected this amount after visiting various shops of this town. This amount is being sent in the shape of a bank draft through the Sainik Kalyan Board, Panchkula.

Meanwhile, teachers and staff of the local Arya Girls Senior Secondary School have decided to donate one day's salary towards the Prime Minister's Relief Fund.

  BATHINDA: The staff and students of the local DAV College have decided to donate Rs 1 lakh to help the families of Kargil martyrs. This money is being contributed towards the Prime Minister's National Defence Fund. The decision in this regard was taken at a staff meeting held on Thursday under the chairmanship of Principal S. Marriya. The Principal and staff members paid rich tributes to the Kargil heroes. A two-minute silence was observed to pay homage to the departed heroes. A registration drive has also been started to register the names of students and staff members willing to donate blood for the jawans of the Indian armed forces battling in Kargil, Dras and Batalik sub-sectors.

LUDHIANA: In order to express their solidarity with the families of the brave soldiers who have laid down their lives while fighting the enemy in Kargil, the management and staff of the Kumar group of industries has donated a sum of Rs 1,22,800 to the Army Central Welfare Fund.

While the management of the company has donated Rs 1 lakh, the staff and workers of M/s Kumar Industrial Corporation and M/s Kumar Autocast Ltd have contributed their one day's salary amounting to Rs 22,803.

JAWALAMUKHI: Officers and staff members of Dehra Forest subdivision have contributed have contributed Rs 25,000 to the PM's Defence Funds. A draft of Rs 25,000 has been handed over to the Conservator of Forest, Dharamsala. The Tibetan Government-in-exile has also contributed Rs 1,18,365 towards the Central Army Welfare Fund. A cheque in this regard was presented by Mr Tashi Wanghi to Divisional Commissioner Lalji Singh.

KULU: The Chief Medical Officer, Dr Roshan Parwar, presented a draft worth Rs 1,75,200 to the Chief Minister's Soldiers Welfare Fund to Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal here on Wednesday on behalf of the medical and paramedical staff working in government hospitals and health centres in the district.

Traders and other residents of Kulu have sent a draft of Rs 2,07,352 to Prime Minister's Soldiers Welfare Fund. While discussing this in a press statement issued here, Mr Madan Lal Sood, a local iron merchant, said at a meeting held here. Homage was paid to Lala Ved Vyas, veteran freedom fighter and a senior RSS leader, who had recently passed away.

NAHAN: Mr B.D. Thakur, Executive Engineer, HP irrigation and public health division here, said officers and non-gazetted employees of the division have contributed one day's salary amounting to Rs 1,01,001 to the CM's Sainik Welfare Fund through a bank draft for the help of families of Kargil martyrs.

Mr Ranbir Singh Chauhan, who is an ex-serviceman and at present employed in the irrigation and public health division, Nahan, as a class IV employee, has donated his one month's salary amounting to Rs 4,501 to the fund.

The District Sirmour Pensioners and Senior Citizens Welfare Association, Nahan has contributed Rs 17,549 to the CM's Sainik Welfare Fund.

KAITHAL: The Seva Sangh and District Press Club have collected Rs 80,000 as aid for the Kargil martyrs. Mr Om Parkash, Sarpanch of Rajaund village, handed over Rs 77,100 through a draft to the Deputy Commissioner. Besides, a sum of Rs 15,551 and Rs 9,760 has been contributed by residents of Teontha and Sangroli villages, respectively. The IMA has also sent a draft of Rs 1,05,000 for thus fund.

KURUKSHETRA: Mahant Ganga Puriji Maharaj, Manager, Shri Sangmeshwar Mahadev Mandir, Urnai (Pehowa), in this district, has donated Rs 11,000 while Shri Sangmeshwar Sewa Dal, Urnai (Pehowa) has contributed Rs 5,100 to the Haryana Chief Minister's War Heroes Relief Fund. Students and teachers of Baba Sharwan Nath Senior Secondary School, Pehowa, have separately donated Rs 7,100 and Rs 6,300, respectively, to the Haryana Chief Minister's War Heroes Relief Fund while the Bharatiya Shiksha Samiti, Pehowa and students and teachers of Baba Sharwan Nath Model School, Pehowa, have contributed Rs 5,100 and Rs 8,100, respectively, to the Haryana Chief Minister's War Heroes Relief Fund.
