No proposal on safe passage: Lanpher
NEW DELHI, June 27 — India today reiterated that it would not entertain third-party mediation on the Kashmir issue even as the US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, Mr Gibson Lanpher, briefed the Indian side on the talks held by a US delegation in Pakistan.

NEW DELHI, June 27 — An all party meeting convened by the Prime Minister, Mr Atal Behari Vajpayee, here tomorrow is likely to be a stormy affair with the Bharatiya Janata Party and other political parties divided over a proposal to convene a special session of the Rajya Sabha to discuss the Kargil conflict.

NEW DELHI, June 27 — The Indian Air Force resorted to round-the-clock strikes in the Kargil sector in the past 48 hours as part of its strategy to wear out armed intruders holed up in the icy mountains.

ISLAMABAD, June 27 — Stung by severe American pressure to pull out of Kargil, the Nawaz Sharif government in Pakistan has despatched former Foreign Secretary Niaz Naik as its special emissary to India on a mission, closely guarded from media, with a set of new proposals to resolve the stand-off.

Big shake-up in Punjab
CHANDIGARH, June 27 — The Punjab Government today ordered new postings and transfers involving IAS and PCS officers. The Principal Secretary, Mr Rajan Kashyap, has been shifted to Science, Technology and Environment from Finance. In his place comes Mr K.R. Lakahnpal, who will continue to hold additional charge as Principal Secretary, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries and Dairying.
