Sonia rejects PM's request on Bihar
NEW DELHI, March 7 — Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee today made a last-ditch attempt to persuade Congress to shed its opposition to parliamentary approval of the statutory resolution on the imposition of President’s rule in Bihar but Congress President Sonia Gandhi rejected the plea.

22 die in IAF plane crash
NEW DELHI, March 7 — On a day when the Indian Air Force was flexing its muscles at the "Vayushakti-99" display at the Pokhran deserts, 22 persons including 19 men from the force were killed when an AN-32 transport aircraft crashed near the Indira Gandhi International Airport this morning.

CHANDIGARH, March 7 — The month of March continues to be unlucky for AN-32 aircraft of Indian Air Force. Of the seven major accidents in which these transport aircraft have been involved since 1986, four took place in March and one in April .

Landslides block national highway
SRINAGAR, March 7 — The 300-Km Srinagar-Jammu national highway was closed for the traffic today following landslides triggered by heavy rainfall and snow which lashed the Kashmir valley since last evening.

KARGIL, March 7 — The entire 75,000 Shia population of Kargil district in the Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir has been living in the shadow of death for the past more than two years just because they defied Pakistani machinations of supporting militancy.
