NEW DELHI, May 3
In a pre-election reshuffle of Union Secretaries, the
Centre today appointed Agriculture Secretary, Kamal Pande
as the new Home Secretary, replacing Mr B.P.Singh, who
has been made Health Secretary.
Mr M.K. Kaw, a Himachal
Pradesh cadre IAS officer, who was till now Adviser to
the Planning Commission, will be the Secretary in the
Department of Education, an official spokesperson said.
Mr Pande, a 1965 batch
UP cadre officer, would be succeeded in the Agriculture
Ministry by Mr Bhaskar Barua, who was the Secretary in
the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports.
Mr B.P. Singh, a 1964
batch Assam cadre officer, replaced Mr K.K. Baksi in the
Health Ministry, who in turn goes as Adviser, Planning
Commission.
Mrs Asha Das, who held
the post of Secretary, Official Languages, is the
Secretary in the Ministry of Social Justice and
Empowerment.
Mrs Das goes in the
place of Mr D.K.Manavalam, who has been made Secretary in
the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports.
Mr P.R. Dasgupta, a
Maharashtra cadre officer, who has been succeeded by Mr
Kaw in the Department of Education has been made Adviser
to the Planning Commission.
Mr N.M. Mookherjee, who
was Secretary in the Department of Consumer Affairs,
prior to his going on leave, on his return would join as
Secretary, Ministry of Non-Conventional Energy Resources.
He succeeds Mr C.R.
Kamalnathan, who is being reverted to his parent cadre in
Andhra Pradesh.
Indias former High
Commissioner to Pakistan, Mr Satish Chandra, an IFS 1965
batch officer, who holds the post of Chairman, Joint
Intelligence Committee, Cabinet Secretariat, has now been
redesignated as Secretary of National Security Council
Secretariat.
