INLD to begin
campaign on May 30 GURGAON, May 27 The Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), principal Opposition party in the Haryana Assembly, will formally launch its election campaign for the coming parliamentary elections in Haryana in Taoru on May 30, notwithstanding the prevailing suspense over the possibility of its alliance with the BJP. The Congress and the BJP have already kicked off their election campaign with their meetings in Dadupur in Karnal district and Taoru, respectively. The HVP is said to be in the midst of preparing its election strategy. The party is said to be going slow as it is awaiting BJPs formal announcement of its election ties. The election campaign of the INLD will commence in Taoru with a public meeting which will be addressed by former Chief Minister and partys chief Mr Om Prakash Chautala. According to INLD sources, the party will organise 23 such meetings in the first phase of its campaign which will come to an end on June 30 at Ambala. Significantly, the venue of the meetings in the first phase will be those Assembly segments of the Lok Sabha seats where the INLD has yet to decide its nominees. The meetings in the remaining Assembly segments will be organised in the second phase. The planning in the INLD is that the party should not dilute or postpone its election campaign till the time the BJP has decided on its alliance partner for the Lok Sabha poll. The INLD leaders have not forgotten their bitter experience with the BJP on the issue of alliance during the last Assembly elections in Haryana. Although the BJP was having talks with its leadership for an alliance, it finally chose the HVP. The partys election campaign then suffered as it lost valuable time. A section in the BJP is in favour of broadbasing the HVP-BJP alliance by including the INLD to avoid a split in the anti-Congress votes. The Haryana unit of the Congress is making efforts for the party president, Mrs Sonia Gandhis visit to the state to address a rally sometime in June-July. An office-bearer of the Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) said the venue of the meeting was yet to be decided. The Congress in the state has drawn up a schedule for public meetings in major villages in each of the Assembly segments in the state. The meetings will be addressed by state president of the party Bhupinder Singh Hooda. The Congress has decided to organise meetings of workers at all district headquarters. The meetings, which are likely to begin from the first week of June, are tipped to commence in Rohtak and Jhajhar. Incidentally, Rohtak is
the home district of Mr Bhupinder Singh Hooda. He also
represented the Rohtak parliamentary seat in the
dissolved 12th Lok Sabha. |

Government sits on probe report HISAR, May 27 The Haryana Government appears to be sitting on the report of an inquiry committee constituted to probe the alleged maladministration in various DAV colleges in Haryana. The Education Minister Mr Ram Bilas Sharma had ordered an inquiry into the alleged malfunctioning of various DAV colleges in Haryana in August, 1996. The inquiry was conducted by the Deputy Director (Colleges) on behalf of the Director of Higher Education, Haryana and the report submitted in December, 1996. However, the government is yet to take action on the report. It was alleged that the DAV colleges in Haryana were being managed by the DAV Management Committee, New Delhi, while as per the provisions of the Haryana Affiliated Colleges Security of Services Act and the statutes of Kurukshetra University and Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak, every non-government recognised college is a distinct and separate entity and should have a separate governing body. As no DAV college in
Haryana has separate governing body, these are being
managed by the DAV Management Committee in New Delhi. The
matter was referred to the Education Minister who ordered
an inquiry. But no follow up action has been taken. |
