BJP leader's son involved
in abduction bid

LUDHIANA, Oct 31
The police has identified two persons who made an
unsuccessful attempt to abduct cine star Mamta Kulkarni
from her hotel here last afternoon, while she was here to
perform during a star nite at Lodhi Club.
The police has
registered an FIR at the police station division no 5,
against the two suspect Kamal Sharma, Gurcharan
Singh and three other unidentified persons under Section
170, 451 366 and 511 of the IPC, on charges of
impersonating as government, servants criminal
trespassing, abducting or enticing a woman with intention
of compelling her for sexual offence and attempt to
kidnap.
Both Kamal Sharma and
Gurcharan Singh are still at large.According to
information available from police sources, of the other
three persons involved in the crime, one of them could
also be a police official and the identity of this person
was likely to be ascertained soon.
It is reliably learnt
that the gunmen accompanying the suspects belonged to the
Indian reserve battalion and had been provided to Mr
Gurcharan Singh.
It is also learnt that
the Deputy Commissioner, Mr Arun Goel, who is also
Chairman of both the Satluj Club and the Lodhi Club, has
ordered the cancellation of club memberships of Kamal
Sharma who according to UNI is a son of BJP councillor
Rekha Sharma, from the Lodhi Club and petrol station
owner Gurcharan Singh from the Satluj Club.
Meanwhile, the starnite
at the Lodhi Club was marred by unruly scenes when drunk
police inspector, misbehaved with organisers.
Mr Arun Goel, who was
the chief guest at the starnite, ordered medical
examination of the police official and asked the SSP to
conduct a departmental inquiry into the incident.
Among the artistes who
performed during the starnite, Mamta Kulkarni was the hot
favourite with the city residents, singer Amit Kumar,
comedian Asrani, and other artistes like Shivangi and
Pinky also enthralled the audience.
