Freedom of faith basic right: Pope
Bishops asked to spread Christianity
NEW DELHI, Nov 6 — Emphasising that peace and religion go together, Pope John Paul II today said that the freedom of belief and worship should be respected in every part of Asia. Describing freedom of faith as the most basic of rights, the supreme leader of the Catholic Christian Church said if this was denied, the whole edifice of human dignity and freedom was shaken.

Shiv Sainiks protest at Rajghat, 6 held
NEW DELHI, Nov 6 — Fifteen Shiv Sainiks were today arrested while holding black-flag demonstrations at Rajghat and Hyderabad House where Pope John Paul II was to meet Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee this morning. While six of them were arrested at Rajghat, nine were taken into custody at Hyderabad House.
10 join Haryana ministry
CHANDIGARH, Nov 6 — In a surprise move, the Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Om Prakash Chautala, today dropped two heavyweight ministers, Mr Brij Mohan Singla and Mr Narbir Singh, and inducted three Cabinet ministers and seven Ministers of State in his Council of Ministers.

Blaze engulfs over 100 shops
Hundreds of vehicles destroyed
AMRITSAR, Nov 6 — In the worst-ever fire tragedy here more than 100 shops were gutted in the IDH market this evening where firecrackers were being sold openly despite a ban by the District Magistrate. Hundreds of vehicles were also gutted in the fire.

55 killed as bus falls into gorge
KATHUA, Nov 6 — At least 55 persons were killed when a bus (JKR 8725) overloaded with passengers fell into a deep gorge at Jandrali village on the Bani-Basohali road today.

PATIALA, Nov 6 — Even as the Wall Street Journal has claimed that Patiala ruler Maharaja Bhupindar Singh’s royal turban has been auctioned in London for $1.70 lakh the members of the royal family today told The Tribune that no such special turban ever existed.
