Two foreign militants killed, force camp attacked JAMMU, Nov 7 Army troops today killed two foreign mercenaries in Surrankote area of Poonch district even as militants attacked a security force camp with rockets in north Kashmir last evening. Elsewhere in the state, a counter insurgent and a teacher were among three people injured and forces recovered a large dump of arms and ammunition during the past 24 hours. A defence spokesman told UNI here this evening that troops killed two foreign militants at village Nad in Surrankote area of Poonch district this afternoon in an exchange of fire. Some arms and ammunition were also recovered from the slain militants, he added. The spokesman said troops also recovered an AK 56 rifle, one pistol, 305 rounds and four magazines in a search operation at village Durgah in Poonch district late last night. Meanwhile a report from Srinagar said militants abducted two persons Abdul Khaliq Ganai and Ali Mohammad Yatoo from their residences at Pattan last evening, an official spokesman said. He said militants fired rocket towards a security force camp at Sopore in north Kashmir last evening. However,the rocket missed the intended target and hit the house of one Nazir Ahmad causing damage to it. However,none was hurt in the incident. He said militants shot at and wounded a principal of a local private school at Tral in Pulwama while a counter insurgent Mohammad Afzal was injured when some unidentified militants fired upon him in the house of one Mohammad Akbar at Safapora in Bandipora last evening. He said militants hurled
a hand grenade towards a security force vehicle at
Badyari Chowk Dalgate last evening. However, the grenade
missed its target and exploded on the roadside causing
injuries to one Manzoor Ahmad Kumar. |

Red alert sounded in Jammu JAMMU, Nov 7 With the shifting of government offices to the Jammu region tomorrow, a red alert has been sounded in the area to prevent the occurrence of any untoward incident. Jammu is the winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir while Srinagar is the summer capital. During summer, government offices function in Srinagar for six months while from November to April they shift to Jammu. Keeping in view the
militant threat, security has been tightened in the city
and around the civil secretariat. |
