NEW DELHI, Nov 8 — There was hectic activity in the Bharatiya Janata Party camp here today with strong indications available that the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Mr Kalyan Singh, was on his way out. Senior party leaders from the State came to the Capital and held parleys with the Central leadership to discuss the imminent change.

Residents recount cops' gallantry
SONEPAT, Nov 8 — Residents of Sonepat recounted the gallantry of constable Ashok Kumar of Haryana Police, who sacrificed his life while saving the victims on one of the worst Divali tragedies of recent times in which at least 45 persons were killed in the Kutcha Quarter Market in Ashok Nagar locality here on Saturday evening.

Kathua bus mishap toll rises to 60
KATHUA, Nov 8 — Over 60 persons, including the Tehsildar of Bani, four policemen, 10 teachers, were killed and 17 injured in a bus mishap near here on Saturday. A Banihal route bus skidded off the road and fell down into a 350-foot gorge at Jandrali on the Bani-Basohli road in Kathua district.

SRINAGAR, Nov 8 — The Vice-Chancellor of Kashmir University, Mr M.Y. Qadiri, escaped an attempt on his life and a couple had been killed since yesterday in militancy-related activities in the valley, official sources said today.

CHANDIGARH, Nov 8 — "My tragedy was too deep for tears the day my only son, Capt M.S. Bhinder, perished in the Uphaar Cinema fire tragedy in Delhi three years ago after chivalrously saving the lives of 160 persons. His wife, Jot Roop, and their four-year-old son, Ruskin, too perished in the fire with him.
