R. P. Gupta to be new UP CM
NEW DELHI, Nov 9 — The BJP central leadership today decided to replace the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Mr Kalyan Singh, and indicated that the Vice-Chairman of the UP Planning Board and former Deputy Chief Minister of the state, Mr Ram Prakash Gupta, will be his successor.

Orissa cyclone relief: an appeal

Never has Orissa seen death, devastation and disruption of life on such a scale as the supercyclone has caused. Lush paddy fields have turned into watery graves for human beings and cattle. Efforts are on to save the starving, the marooned and the disease-hit.

UN aid likely for cyclone-hit
NEW DELHI, Nov 9 — The United Nations is likely to sanction a grant of about Rs 220 crore for relief and rehabilitation work for cyclone-hit people of Orissa, the world body’s relief operators said here today.

Don't disturb power reforms, Vajpayee tells Chautala
CHANDIGARH, Nov 9 — The Central Government has urged the Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Om Prakash Chautala not to disturb the reform process in the power sector. It should be continued with greater vigour, the Chief Minister was told.

AMRITSAR, Nov 9 — Even as 131 out of total 183 SGPC members at a meeting of the Shiromani Committee today unanimously endorsed the decision of Mr Parkash Singh Badal, Bibi Jagir Kaur is all set to be re-elected 35th president of the committee at the annual election slated for tomorrow.

10 Pakistani soldiers killed in Uri
NEW DELHI, Nov 9 — The Pakistani army today attacked an Indian post, Faulad, in the Uri sector in Jammu and Kashmir between 6.30 p.m. and 7.45 p.m., an Army spokesman said. Indian troops repulsed the attack in which 10 Pakistani soldiers were killed. "The Indian picket is still under intense shelling,’’ he said.
