Blast in haveli: 11 killed

JAIPUR, Nov 20 (PTI) — Eleven person, including eight of a family, were killed, and four injured in an explosion which brought down half of a haveli (mansion) at Amwara village in Sawaimadhopur district yesterday, the police said today.

While two bodies were recovered yesterday, eight were pulled out today even as the body of the wife of Thakur Durga Singh, who owned the haveli was still to be traced, they said.

Thakur Durga Singh was away when the explosion occurred turning his age-old haveli into rubble, the police said.

The deceased included eight women of the family and three servants occupying the main section of the ancient haveli, the police said.

A team of forensic experts has been sent to ascertain the exact cause of the explosion, but local people said some hidden explosives lying underground had caught fire, a police report said.

The injured have been admitted to hospital.

Five domestic animals including a camel, also perished in the powerful explosion, the police added.back
