NEW DELHI, Nov 28 — The government and Opposition failed to reach a consensus tonight on the controversial Insurance Bill with Left parties expressing reservations on it and the Congress remaining non-committal while, several parties opposed the introduction of women’s reservation Bill.

Opposition to Bill mounts
5 parties back insurance staff
NEW DELHI, Nov 28 — Several Opposition parties and employees of insurance firms today decided to offer stiff resistance to the government’s move to have the Bill on insurance regulatory development authority passed in the Winter session of Parliament, beginning tomorrow.

NEW DELHI, Nov 28 — The government’s proposal to pass a legislation for formation of separate states of Uttaranchal, Vananchal and Chhatisgarh has run into rough weather with the Telegu Desam Party, an ally of the BJP-led NDA, and the Opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal opposing the move.

NEW DELHI, Nov 28- The ruling National Democratic Alliance today braced up for a stormy winter session of Parliament, beginning tomorrow, and proposed to highlight the mishandling of relief work in cyclone-devastated Orissa by the state Congress government.

NEW DELHI, Nov 28 — The Congress today warned the Vajpayee government against taking its support in Parliament for granted and demanded that Rajiv Gandhi’s name be deleted from the Bofors chargesheet.

RJD resurrects Mandal plank
RAJGIR (Bihar), Nov 28 — The ruling RJD today resurrected its 'Mandal plank," pledged not to allow division of Bihar and announced a series of agitational programmes against Vananchal and price hike in an apparent bid to consolidate its position during the upcoming Assembly elections in the state.

Govindacharya rules out split
LUCKNOW, Nov 28 — Seeking to contain possible revolt in the party following the suspension of ousted Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Kalyan Singh from primary membership of the BJP, the party high command today rushed to Lucknow party General Secretary K.N. Govindacharya who ruled out a split in the party in the state.

Awami leader, gunmen killed
25 ultras attack residence
SRINAGAR, Nov 28 — Senior Awami League leader Mohammad Anwar Sheikh and his two bodyguards were killed and his wife and daughter-in-law seriously injured when at least 25 militants attacked his house with grenades in north Kashmir, a senior police official said today.

NEW DELHI, Nov 28 — While dust is being raised over the decision to retire two members of the Prasar Bharati Board — historian Romila Thapar and novelist Mr Rajendra Yadav — during the process of preparing a reply to Parliament, the Information and Broadcasting Minister’s office has stumbled upon midnight skeletons in the Prasar Bharati’s cupboard.
