NEW DELHI, Oct 2 — Amid tight security, 118 Lok Sabha constituencies spread over 10 states and a union territory including prestigious seats of Lucknow and Amethi go to polls in the final phase tomorrow.

Advani predicts bipolar scene
NEW DELHI, Oct 2 — The Union Home Minister and chairman of the BJP’s national campaign Committee, Mr L.K. Advani, today predicted that the current elections will throw up a bipolar polity in the country with the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance and the Congress-led alliance emerging as the two key political players.

NEW DELHI, Oct 2 — President K.R. Narayanan, Vice-President Krishan Kant and Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee led the nation in paying tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on his 130th birth anniversary today.

5 of family commit suicide
HISAR, Oct 2 —Five members of a family committed suicide here late last night in the Railway Colony. They were identified as Madan Lal Jadia (40), his wife Geeta Devi (36), daughter Rajni (18) and two sons Vishal (16) and Prashant (13).

ISLAMABAD, Oct 2— JKLF chief Ammanullah Khan has said activists of his group will cross the Line of Control into India unarmed on October 4.

USA: India, Pak may sign CTBT
WASHINGTON, Oct 2 — The USA has said India and Pakistan may sign the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty once the US Senate ratifies it and hoped the upcoming conference on the CTBT will pass a strong resolution urging both the countries to initial the treaty.

ROHTAK, Oct 2 — The Governor of Haryana and Chancellor of Maharshi Dayanand University, Mr Mahabir Prasad, has asked the Vice-Chancellor, Lt-Gen O.P. Kaushik (retd), to show cause why action should not be taken against him for challenging the authority of the Chancellor and using "intemperate" language in letters sent to him.
