Blood donation camp:
The local Friends Welfare and Sports Club organised a blood donation camp at Bachat Bhavan here on Thursday. Mr V.K. Janjua, Deputy Commissioner, inaugurated the camp. A team from PGI, Chandigarh, collected 200 units of blood, according to Mr Harish Kumar, President of the club.

Canteen cards: Capt Surjeet Singh, Manager of the Golden Lion Army canteen, here, has urged all Army personnel and ex-servicemen to get their canteen cards from the canteen. He said 1,800 families of Armymen were deriving benefits from the canteen services.

Legal aid services: Mr K.S. Grewal, District Sessions Judge, Patiala, and Chairman of the Free Legal Aid Services, has urged the weaker sections of society to derive benefit from these services. Mr Grewal gave his approval to 19 cases to get free legal aid. He urged people to settle their cases through the Lok Adalats.

KHANNA
Pulse polio:
The Health Department, Punjab, will organise 'panch sammelans' in all districts of the state to mobilise support for the pulse polio drive. The Director, Health and Family Welfare, Punjab, Mr R.S. Sandhu, said while addressing a meeting of doctors that arrangements for the pulse polio campaign should be reviewed. He said the first sammelan will be held in Khanna at Hindi Putri Pathshala in which panches and sarpanches of Khanna, Payal, Maloud and Manupur will participate. Dr Rajinder Kaur, Civil Surgeon, Ludhiana, said polio drops would be given to more than four lakh children in Ludhiana district on October 24.

Competition:
The local unit of the Bharat Vikas Parishad (BVP) organised a group song competition on Thursday at Anand Bhavan Club. Parents of the Kargil martyrs of the area and the meritorious students were given mementoes on the occasion.

Committee:
Employees working in the border belts of Amritsar, Gurdaspur and Ferozepore districts have formed a Border Area Mulazim Sangharsh Committee to demand the restoration of the 5 per cent border house rent allowance. Mr Sucha Singh, convener of the committee, said here on Thursday that the committee had chalked out a plan to organise demonstrations in different parts of the border areas to press their demands, which included filling of vacant posts.

Elected: Mr Balbir Singh Sahota and Mr Jai Bhagwan Sharma have been elected president and general secretary, respectively, of the Residents Welfare Association (government houses), Sector 33.

Boycott call: The convener of the Punjab Draftsmen Association, Mr Harcharan Singh, and four executive members have appealed to the members to boycott the elections to be held at Jalandhar on Saturday. they alleged in a press note here on Friday that the selection of delegates from the Irrigation Department had not been made under the proper authority.

Discussion:
Gen V.P. Malik, Chief of the Army, held a high-level operational discussion with the 2 Corps Commander and Divisional Commanders here. He also shared his experiences of Operation Vijay with them. According to an Army press note, General Malik outlined his perceptions about the training orientation of 2 Corps for the next 12 months.

JIND
Missing:
Mr Arun Jain, an accountant in the local grain market, has been missing since October 3. The police registered a case of kidnapping on Thursday on the complaint of his brother-in-law, Prahlad Rai.Mr Jain is a nephew of Mr Rameshwar Dass Gupta, state treasurer of the BJP.

NARNAUL
Condemned:
Mr Vichitra Deve Sharma, President of the District Bar Association, has condemned the attitude of the district administration over neglecting sanitation in the litigants hall at the Mini Secretariat here. He said uncleanliness was causing great inconvenience to advocates and litigants.

Resentment: Resentment prevails among the shopkeepers at Rewari road here over laying of a sewer at a spot in front of the shops. A few days ago, a man fell in the deep sewerage pit. The shopkeepers are demanding that sewerage work should be completed immediately.

SIRSA
Arrested:
Kuldeep Singh of Chormar village in the district was arrested by the Odhan police on the charge of murdering Bhoop Singh of the village on September 29. Mr K. K. Misra, SP, said on Friday that the deceased was seriously injured by Kuldeep Singh and Chinda Singh about a year and a half ago due to some old enmity. About a fortnight ago, the deceased was told by the accused to not give evidence against them in the court. Palaram, brother of the deceased, in a complaint to the police said Kuldeep Singh, Chinda Singh, Atma Singh and Nanu Singh shot dead his brother when he was going to sleep on the roof of his house.

Drugs smuggling: Bansi Lal of Umed Pura village in the district was arrested by the Ellenabad police on Thursday on the charge of smuggling of narcotic drugs. A spokesman for the Sirsa police said on Friday that the Ellenabad police had recovered on August 7, 17 kg of poppy husk from his possession from Umedpura village and had registered a case under the NDPS Act against him.

SONEPAT
Power cut:
The city and its adjoining areas remained without power for one and a half hours on Thursday paralysing normal life and business activity, following the switching off of power supply from Panipat and Narela by the Bhakra Beas Management Board. Strong resentment prevails among power consumers here over the frequent switching off of power supply during the evening hours by the BBMB. Residents held a protest meeting here on Friday against power cuts after dusk.

Gamblers held: The police conducted a raid on a gambling den here on Thursday and arrested four persons on the charge of gambling. It recovered Rs 2,150 from them. The arrested persons have been identified as Bhushan of Mohalla Kot, Suresh of Devi Nagar, Dharampal of Garhi Ghasita and Karamvir of Subhash Nagar.

Suspended: Head Constable Jai Pal Singh of Crime Investigation Agency here was suspended by Mr K.K. Mishra, SP, on Thursday on the charge of negligence of duty. According to sources, Jai Pal Singh failed to take any action against two gamblers who were arrested by the police at the local anaj mandi on Thursday.

Sarpanches suspended: Amar Singh, sarpanch of Jhorardnali village in the district was suspended by the Deputy Commissioner on the complaint of villagers for the alleged misappropriation of funds. Datta Ram, Sarpanch of Panniwala village in the district, was also reportedly suspended by the DC on the charge of misappropriation of funds realised from an auction of panchayat land.

Seized: The police seized 2,250 pouches of liquor being carried for smuggling from a jeep at Rania road here on Thursday. According to sources, all three occupants of the jeep escaped. The police has impounded the jeep.top

As many as 51 persons donated blood at a camp which was organised here on Thursday in the memory of a Kargil martyr, Sepoy Shyam Singh. The camp was organised by the Chopal Students Welfare Association.
