Cong, NCP to hold talks
MUMBAI, Oct 9 — Efforts to form a Congress-NCP government in Maharashtra received a boost tonight with the breakaway Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) accepting a formal proposal from its parent party for talks to "keep communal forces out of power".

Jaya blames it on Cong
CHENNAI, Oct 9 — All-India Anna DMK general secretary J Jayalalitha today remained non-committal on continuing the alliance with the Congress saying that the pact was forged only for the Lok Sabha elections.

Jathedar lauds Sukha, Jinda
GADLI (Amritsar), Oct 9 — Much to the embarrassment of the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal, Giani Puran Singh, Jathedar of Akal Takht, today paid rich tributes to Harjinder Singh Jinda and Sukhdev Singh Sukha, assassins of Gen A.S. Vaidya. He also eulogised the "sacrifice" of Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale.
