NEW DELHI, Oct 10 — The verdict for the elections to the 13th Lok Sabha having turned out in their favour, leaders of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance have chosen October 13 as the date for the swearing in of the new government.

Pranab, others submit resignation

NEW DELHI, Oct 10 — Several All-India Congress Committee (AICC) office-bearers today submitted their resignations to Congress President Sonia Gandhi to enable her to totally reorganise the party’s leadership set-up, following the setback in the Lok Sabha poll.

MUMBAI, Oct 10 — The post of Chief Minister today became the bone of contention in the talks between the Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in Maharashtra as the two parties were locked in hard political bargaining seeking to put together a coalition government following fractured electoral verdict.

Krishna to be Karnataka CM
BANGALORE, Oct 10 — KPCC President S.M. Krishna, who led the party to a spectacular victory in the assembly poll, was today unanimously elected leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP), paving the way for his taking over the mantle of chief ministership tomorrow.

13th Lok Sabha constituted
NEW DELHI, Oct 10 — The 13th Lok Sabha was today constituted with the Election Commission submitting the notified list of 537 newly-elected members to the President, Mr K.R. Narayanan, to initiate the process of government formation at the Centre.

DMK puts off crucial meeting
CHENNAI, Oct 10 — In a sudden development, the DMK today postponed a crucial meeting of its Executive Committee, scheduled for October 12, to decide on participation in the new NDA ministry, but an earlier decision on this could not be ruled out.



Sinha warns of tough fiscal steps
NEW DELHI, Oct 10 — Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha today cautioned that the new government will have to take immediate stringent steps to tackle widening fiscal deficit even as the economy is poised for a 7 per cent growth.
