Pak army seals off Parliament
ISLAMABAD, Oct 14 — Pakistani troops today sealed off the country’s Parliament after evacuating the staff, even as the army claimed it had no intention to impose martial law and was toying with the idea of installing a civilian government.

WASHINGTON, Oct 14 — The Senate’s rejection of the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty has dealt a blow to the US President, Mr Bill Clinton’s foreign policy, even as Mr Clinton vowed to continue to fight for a global nuclear test ban.

MUMBAI, Oct 14 — The Congress Legislature Party leader Vilasrao Deshmukh tonight formally staked claim to form government in Maharashtra.

NEW DELHI, Oct 14 — Shiv Sena leader and outgoing Maharashtra Chief Minister Narayan Rane said today differences between his party and the Bharatiya Janata Party had been resolved and both parties would stake a joint claim to form the government in the state.


"Baba" beats woman to death
FAZILKA (Ferozepore), Oct 14 — In a bizarre incident, Baljit Kaur, a young married woman of Kabulshahakhuban was allegedly beaten to death on October 10 by a "baba", Sukhdev Singh, alias Sukha, at Khippanwali village under the garb of exorcising devil from her.
