‘Kachha baniyan’ gang
strikes again, kills 3

PANIPAT, Oct 16 (PTI) — Three persons were murdered and six others injured by members of "kachha baniyan" gang at three different villages of the district last night and escaped after looting cash and jewellery from the victim’s houses.

The Police said today that a gang of 10 persons reportedly clad in "kachha baniyan" first struck at Nanera village at midnight and attacked Ram Dhan with iron rods.

After injuring him seriously and taking away valuables, the gang moved to Jalmana village and raided the house of Champat, the police said.

Champat and his son Ramphal were attacked with iron rods and axe by the gangsters killing them on the spot.

Later, they entered the house of Sardara and after injuring him and his wife Kela Devi they decamped with cash and ornaments from the house.

After that they entered the house at Adri village in the wee hours and killed Angoori, the police said adding that her head was chopped with an axe.

In this incident Srishagwan and his wife Sheela were also injured.

This is the third incident of the attack and robberies by the gang in this district within a month.

Only yesterday the gang had killed two persons and seriously injured nine others at Jhajjar.

SHIMLA, Oct 16 — Mr P.C. Katoch, Director, Public Relations, was today appointed Deputy Commissioner of Shimla in a reshuffle of IAS officers in Himachal Pradesh.

The Deputy Commissioners of Una, Bilaspur and Hamirpur have been shifted.

Mr R.C. Kapil, DC, Bilaspur, has been appointed Director of Public Relations.

Mr Jagdish Chandra, Director, Youth Services and Sports, has been appointed DC, Bilaspur.

Mrs Anuradha Thakur, ADC, Kangra, has been promoted and posted as DC, Hamirpur.

Mr K.K. Pant, DC, Hamirpur, has been shifted to Una as DC in place of Mr K.S. Narang, who has been posted as Labour Commissioner.

Mr Ram Subhag Singh, DC, Shimla, has been appointed Private Secretary to the Union Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution, Mr Shanta Kumar.

Mr T.G. Negi, Managing-Director, HPMC, has been shifted to the Handloom and Handicrafts Corporation and Mr Srikant Baldi appointed in his place in the HPMC.

Mr V.P. Gupta, Director, Urban Local Bodies, is Director, Youth Services and Sports.

Mr K.J.B.V. Subramaniam, Director, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, has been appointed Managing Director of the General Industries Corporation (GIC).

Mr A.V.P. Adithala, Labour Commissioner, is Director, Local Bodies. Mr Tarun Kapoor, Director, Town and Country Planning, goes as Director, Rural Development.

Mr O.C. Sharma, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Mandi, has been appointed Additional Secretary, Home, in place of Mr M.L. Sharma, who goes as ADC, Mandi. Mr Sharma will also hold the additional charge of Director, Technical Education, Sundernagar.

Mr S.C.Mehta, Additional Secretary, has been appointed Additional Registrar, Cooperative Societies, Dharamsala.

Mr J.S. Rana, HAS, Secretary, HPSEB, has been appointed ADC, Kangra. Mr Chamel Singh, HAS, Controller, Stationery and Printing, has been appointed as Secretary, HPSEB.

Mr Deepak Bagai, IPS, Managing Director, Handloom Corporation, has been shifted to the Backward Classes Corporation, Kangra.
