Pak orders probe into tape leakage
Inquiry into sugar deal
ISLAMABAD, Oct 17 — The Pakistani military authorities have ordered separate probes into the sugar deal with India and the leak of the tape of a conversation between the then army chief, Gen Pervez Musharraf, and Chief of General Staff Lt Gen Aziz during the Kargil crisis to the Indian Government.

Jaswant rules out early talks
NEW DELHI, Oct 17 —The External Affairs Minister, Mr Jaswant Singh today ruled an early resumption of bilateral talks with Pakistan saying it was still "too early" to consider such an option specially after that country came under military law early last week.

MUMBAI, Oct 17 — Nationalist Congress Party Maharashtra unit president Chhagan Bhujbal will be sworn in as Deputy Chief Minister of the state tomorrow following his election as leader of the NCP state legislature party today.

BANGALORE, Oct 17 — A 42-member Congress Ministry, comprising 24 members of Cabinet rank and 18 Ministers of State, was sworn in in Karnataka today, a week after the S.M. Krishna assumed chief ministership of the state following the party’s resounding victory in the Assembly polls.

Asks workers to remain in field
HISAR, Oct 17 — Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala is understood to have favoured mid-term assembly elections along with five other states in February next. Mr Chautala is reported to have asked BJP and INLD workers "to remain in the field and not return to the barracks as elections can be announced at a short notice of 15 days".
