NEW DELHI, Oct 18 — The Army chief, Gen V.P. Malik, today said the announcement of Pakistan military ruler Gen Pervez Musharraf to pull back his forces along the international border with India did not "amount to much" militarily.

Cyclone kills 10 in Orissa
BHUBANESWAR, Oct 18 — At least 16 persons were killed, more than 500 villages affected and telecommunication, rail and road traffic thrown out of gear in Orissa as a severe cyclone with gale speed of 200 kmph hit the state’s southern coast early this morning.

Govt for end to power subsidy
CHANDIGARH, Oct 18 — The Akali-BJP coalition government is veering around the idea of withdrawing free power concession to farmers. "This has almost been decided and you may expect an announcement any time. This decision is a tough one, but we are moving in this direction", two ministers told TNS here today. None was prepared to come on record as they felt the announcement should be made by the Chief Minister.

USA offers missile deal to Russia
NEW YORK, Oct 18 — The White House is offering to help Russia complete a large missile tracking radar if it agrees to renegotiate an arms control agreement so the USA can build a national missile defence system, The New York Times reported yesterday.
