ABOHAR
Residents angry:
A passage giving access to more than 30,000 residents of Nai Abadi near railway platform has become a bone of contention between railway authorities and the people who have been crossing it for last 40 years. The passage was also used by the residents of the railway colony, including works inspectors and their families. The citizens Action Committee on Monday resolved to gherao the Divisional Railway Manager at Ambala on Thursday.

KAPURTHALA
Cattle feed destroyed:
About 5000 bags of cattle feed were destroyed in a fire which broke out in cattle feed factory. Mr R L Jain, owner of the factory said the fire broke out at mid night on Monday. It was controlled by fire tenders of the local municipal council. The cause of fire has not as yet been ascertained.

MOGA
Currency shortage:
Shortage of currency notes of small denomination in the region has caused resentment among people. The notes available in the market were soiled which even shopkeepers have refused to accept.

Office-bearers:
The following have been elected office-bearers of the Sudhar Committee , Rose Colony, Rajpura Road: President — Mr R.K. Handa; Vice-President — Mr Jagat Singh Chug; General Secretary — Mr Surinder Pal Jindal; and Joint Secretary- Mr Dalip Arora.

Nominated: Mr Gian Chand Jain has been nominated as the General Secretary of the local branch of the All India Film Goers Association, an official press note of the association said here on Monday.

Transformer installed:
A new electricity transformer has been installed at the local Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar following complaints about voltage fluctuation. The Senior Executive Engineer of the PSEB, Mr Ajit Singh, said here on Wednesday that this facility would be used for domestic consumption only.

Appointed:
Dr Balwant Singh Chahal, Director, Punjab Cooperative Agricultural Development Bank, has been appointed General Secretary of the District Akali Jatha, Ludhiana Rural (Badal), by Prof Kirpal Singh Badungar , Secretary , Shiromani Akali Dal.

SANGRUR
Urged:
Dr Surinder Singla, Regional Secretary, and Dr Darshan Pal, District President, Punjab Civil Medical Services Association, in a joint statement issued here on Wednesday urged the Punjab Chief Minister and Health Minister to order a probe into the purchase scams of the Health Department.

Criticised: The Ghar bachao committee has criticised the Punjab government for overlooking the demand for constituting a nagar panchayat for Naya Gaon and the adjoining villages. The committee has demanded regularisation of the houses in Kansal, Naya Gaon, Janata colony and Karoran. The committee has threatened to launch an agitation if its demands are not accepted.

Nursing update: The first continue nursing education (CNE) on paediatric nursing update is being organised in the Advanced Paediatric Centre of the PGI on October 23 and 24. During the programme various topics such as role of nurses in prevention and control of infection in paediatric unit, thermo regulation in new born, advancement in management of poisoned children, resuscitation, care of leukaemia children, etc will be discussed along with demonstrations.

Elected: The following have been elected office-bearers of the managing committee of the local chapter of the Computer Society of India: Chairman — Mr D.P. Goel; Vice-Chairman — Mr Jarnail Singh; and Secretary — Mr C. Ghanshayam.top

AMBALA
Chain snatching:
Geeta Rani a resident of the city lodged a complaint with the police here on Monday, that her gold chain was snatched while she was on her way to the Ambika Devi temple.

Fast broken: Rajni Sharma, wife of a mahant , ended her fast unto death here on Tuesday after getting an assurance of a probe from the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Mr Mohinder Kumar. She had been reportedly protesting against the ill-treatment meted out to her by some members of her husband's family.

ROHTAK
Molestation bid:
A girl was allegedly molested by a youth in Kalanaur town on Monday. According to police sources the girl was on her way to the market when Devender forcibly tried to molest her. He fled away when girl shouted for help. A case has been registered against the accused. No arrest has been made so far.

Dead: Ram Singh a resident of Jhajjar town who was serious injured in an attack by a gang of robbers on October 15, succumbed to his injuries in the PGIMS Hospital here on Tuesday.

SIRSA
Arrested:
Jagbir Singh of Devbas village in Bhiwani District was arrested by the police on Monday for rash and negligent driving.

Two arrested: Birbal and his brother Vijay Kumar both from Teja Khera village were arrested by the police here on Monday. Mr Kameshver Kumar Mishra, SP, said here on Tuesday that they along with two other had threatened to eliminate Bhoop Singh. A case has been registered.

Admitted: Kashmiri Lal (55) of the local Mela Ground consumed a poisonous substance at his residence here on Tuesday. He was shifted to the Civil Hospital for treatment.

Power cut: A four-hour power cut imposed by the Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam in the district has adversely affected normal life in the district. A senior leader of the Janata Dal, Mr Jiwa Ram Chaperwal, said here on Tuesday that students were finding it difficult to study as cuts are mainly during night and early hours of the morning.

Shop looted: An unidentified youth reportedly broke the lock of a shop at Mandi Dabwali on Monday and decamped with cash lying in shop. The police has registered a case.

Poppy husk seized: Bikar Singh and Mukhtiyar Singh of Chormar village were arrested by the Odhan police on Monday under the NDPC Act. The police seized 15 kg of poppy-husk from their possession. The police has also arrested Hament , Sukha and Nijayu Kumar under the Gambling Act.

Injured: Baldev Singh (18), of Nejadala village was attacked by his uncle on Monday. According to sources Baldev had demanded back Rs 2800 loaned to his uncle. He was admitted to the civil hospital for treatment. A case has been registered.

Admitted: A woman Abubshahar was admitted to the local Civil Hospital on Monday with 100 per cent burn injuries. She reportedly received burn injuries when her clothes allegedly caught fire while preparing tea on a stove.

SONEPAT
Rapist absconding:
The Kharkhauda police has registered a case against Ishwar Singh of Nizampur Majra village for allegedly raping the wife of his brother, Mohinder Singh. The suspect is absconding.

Resentment: Resentment prevails among shopkeepers and residents of Ram Bazaar area against the bad condition of the roads and lack of proper sanitation. Shopkeepers alleged that the authorities of the local Municipal Council were indifferent to their complaints and no action had been taken by them so far.

YAMUNANAGAR
Cases resolved:
In a Lok Adalat convened at Jagadhri on Monday by the Additional District and Sessions Judge, Mr Dhani Ram, 522 cases of various nature were resolved. Fiftysix cases of motor accidents were solved and a compensation worth Rs 52.33 lakh was distributed. Ten cases of Hindu Marriage Act, 95 civil cases, 131 criminal cases, besides 103 summary challan cases were also solved and Rs 1.92 lakh were recovered from the persons concerned.

Injured: Ramesh Kumar, a resident of Bhagwanpur village, was injured seriously when two youths fired at him near sugarcane centre here on Tuesday. The cause of attack could not be ascertained. Ramesh has been referred to the PGI, Chandigarh. A case has been registered. top

JAWALAMUKHI
Thieves arrested: The Kangra police has arrested four pickpockets in Jawalamukhi and Chamunda. Jugal Kishor of Chandigarh was arrested at Chamunda, whereas, Raj Kumar, Balwant and Subhash of Ludhiana were arrested at Jawalamukhi.

NURPUR
Assaulted : The Nurpur police on Monday arrested Mulkhraj of Simbli village under Section 307 of the IPC, for allegedly assaulting Kartar Singh with a sharp edged weapon. The victim was rushed to Amritsar for treatment.top
