Plan to make rape punishable by death

NEW DELHI, Oct 22 (PTI) — The government is proposing to bring in a legislation in the next session of Parliament to make rape an offence punishable by death sentence.

"By the next session of Parliament, we would bring a legislation to give death sentence to rapists. The draft of the legislation has been sent to the National Commission for Women", Minister of State for Human Resource Development, Sumitra Mahajan told newsmen here after the meeting of the BJP Parliamentary Party here today.
