Giani Puran Singh sacked
4 SGPC members excommunicated
AMRITSAR, March 28 — In a day of high drama, the SGPC executive today sacked Giani Puran Singh as Jathedar Akal Takht and suspended him from his post as Granthi of the Golden Temple. During the period of his suspension his headquarters will be at Muktsar. The executive also appointed Giani Joginder Singh Vedanti, Granthi, Golden Temple, as Acting Jathedar in place of Giani Puran Singh.

Musharraf to persuade ultras
KUALA LUMPUR, March 28 — Pakistan’s military ruler General Pervez Musharraf today admitted that his writ runs large among the militants in Kashmir when he told the Financial Times in an interview that following his talks with US President Bill Clinton, he would try to persuade the militant outfits to help reduce tension and pave the way for the two neighbours to resume talks.

Ilyasi held for dowry death NEW DELHI, March 28 — Producer of TV serial “India’s Most Wanted” Suhaib Ilyasi was arrested today in connection with dowry-related death of his wife Anju Ilyasi(27). He was remanded in judicial custody for 14 days by the Metropolitan Magistrate at Karkardooma Court, Mr Sanjay Kumar.
Suhaib Ilyasi, well-known producer of teleserial “India’s Most Wanted”, in judicial custody on Tuesday at the Karkardomma Courts, Delhi, in connection with the death of his wife Anju.

Ex-PMs may forge front
NEW DELHI, March 28 — The four former Prime Ministers, who met yesterday for the second time to take stock of the situation prevailing in the country, today gave an indication of their inclination to forge a front in a bid to provide an alternative to the National Democratic Alliance at the Centre.
