Chandrachud report to be made public
CALCUTTA, April 18 — The Indian cricket board today decided to make the Justice Chandrachud report on match-fixing and betting public and welcomed a fresh probe by the police or any other investigating agency to clean up any mess relating to the game in the country.

CBI approaches Interpol
NEW DELHI, April 18 — The Central Bureau of Investigation has reportedly forwarded a request letter of the Delhi police to Interpol to obtain voice sample of the sacked captain of South African cricket team, Hansie Cronje, and London-based NRI Sanjeev Chawla to authenticate their tapped telephone conversations.

France too backs India for UN seat
PARIS, April 18 — France has backed India’s candidature for a permanent UN Security Council seat, saying that it will give full meaning to “our common determination to contribute to the construction of a harmonious multi-polar world.”

Curbs on WB loans may go
WASHINGTON, April 18 — The World Bank has assured India that it will consider lifting of post-Pokhran nuclear tests sanctions against development loans to it. The assurance was given by the bank President, Mr James Wolfensohn, during a meeting here yesterday with the Union Finance Minister, Mr Yashwant Sinha.

Pak jails haunt Roop Lal
New Delhi, April 18 — Roop Lal might have returned to India, but the quarter century of prison life in Pakistan continues to haunt him even today. “I don’t get a sound sleep even today. Though I know that I am with my daughter, I still think this is a dream and I don’t want it to be shattered,” said Roop Lal, who languished in different Pakistani jails since 1974.

14 feared drowned in Chenab
JAMMU, April 18 — Fourteen passengers were feared drowned when a bus, while negotiating a turn, skidded and rolled into the river Chenab at Atholi in Doda district of Jammu region, official sources said here today.

Curfew reimposed in West Tripura
AGARTALA, April 18 — The nine-hour-long curfew, which ended at 5 a.m. today, was reimposed in West Tripura’s Jirania police station areas, which have been witnessing ethnic violence since April 10.

Crazed convicts scare hospital
AMRITSAR, April 18 — At least 40 undertrials and convicts in the local high security jail have been found to be mentally sick or “deranged” as per a preliminary survey. The jail superintendent in a letter to Civil Surgeon, a copy of which was sent to the Medical Superintendent, Mental Hospital, has urged that a medical board be constituted to examine the inmates so that mental patients could be identified.
