Srinagar car blast kills 12
Lensman among victims; heavy shelling by Pak
SRINAGAR, Aug 10 — In the first major strike after the withdrawal of ceasefire, suspected Hizbul Mujahideen militants today triggered a powerful car bomb blast, killing 12 persons including 10 policemen and a photographer of a national daily in a decoy grenade attack here.

Hizb, Lashker claim responsibility
SRINAGAR, Aug 10 — Pakistan-backed Lashker-e-Toiba claimed responsibility for the powerful car bomb blast which killed 11 persons and injured 38 here today.

Blast at Pak’s behest: PM
NEW DELHI, Aug 10 — Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee tonight said the car bomb explosion in Srinagar was executed “at the behest of Pakistan”.

Hizb to target military installations
ISLAMABAD, Aug 10 — Pakistan-based militant outfit Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) has threatened to intensify its operations by targeting military installations all over India, which it accused of being “not sincere” about settling the Kashmir issue.

Democracy no term for talks: PM

Paddy worth 50 cr missing
 CHANDIGARH, Aug 10 — As certain government agencies are dilly-dallying on submitting a report to the Punjab Government with regard to missing stocks of paddy worth Rs 50 crore, the Punjab Food and Supplies Minister, Mr Madan Mohan Mittal, has directed the authorities concerned to submit the exact account with full details of the missing paddy in the state within two weeks.

Punjab to cut ST on over 24 items
CHANDIGARH, Aug 10 — The Excise and Taxation Department has decided to slash sales tax on several items. It has also decided to amend Section 14 ( B) of the Punjab General Sales Tax Act.
