AMRITSAR, Nov 29 — Amid a walkout, staged by a veteran SGPC member, Mr Puran Singh Josh, the SAD office-bearers and SGPC members, today unanimously authorised Mr Parkash Singh Badal to nominate the candidate for the election of SGPC President, scheduled for tomorrow.

WASHINGTON, Nov 29 — Vice- President Al Gore’s efforts to overturn his Republican rival George Bush’s victory in Florida suffered a setback as a state court on Tuesday night put on hold his legal challenge at least till the US Supreme Court’s historic hearing on a related issue on Friday.

India agrees to import oil from Iraq
NEW DELHI, Nov 29 — In a major deal with Iraq, India today agreed “in principle” to import oil from Baghdad in return for wheat under the world body’s food-for-oil programme but the contract would be implemented after discussions with its sanctions committee.
