BFU degrees for BHMS students

The BHMS students will receive degrees from Baba Farid University, Faridkot, while the supplementary examinations will be conducted by the Council of Homoeopathic System of Medicine (CHSM), Punjab, according to Mr Manoranjan Kalia, Medical Education Minister, Punjab. He disclosed this during the inauguration of the Anjana Rani Oswal Maternity Wing of Lord Mahavira Homoeopathic College and Hospital here today.

Mr Kalia, while talking to mediapersons, said that on October 4, a high-level meeting would be held in which the principals, medical superintendents and directors of various medical colleges in Punjab will be invited to study the equipment required by these institutions.

The minister further added, “On October 5 we will visit and review BFU”. He also appealed to the doctors to voluntarily provide their services to the poor as they were not able to bear the cost of treatment.

Mr Kalia appreciated the services provided by the Lord Mahavira institution. He said over 25 educational and health centers were being run by this organisation. Mr Hira Lal Jain, acting president, Mahavira College and Hospital, said that over Rs 1 crore was spent on the construction of the maternity wing.

He said that newly constructed wing was equipped with latest technology. He assured that free treatment will be provided to the poor patients.

NSS camp concludes

Ludhiana, October 2
A 10-day NSS camp organised by the volunteers of Guru Hargobind Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, concluded here today.

During the camp, over 125 volunteers participated in the health awareness programme for the residents of the nearby area. Lectures were held during which resource persons from Guru Nanak Charitable Trust, Mullanpur, Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle and Tarksheel Society visited the college.

Dr C.L. Narang, Director, NSS, Panjab University, told the students that population, pollution, illiteracy, women empowerment and national integration were the major issues which needed much attention. Prof Bawa Singh and Prof Swaranjit Singh, lecturers, expressed their views on AIDS and general health.

A short cultural programme and prize distribution for the distinguished volunteers marked the valedictory function today. Mr Manjit Singh Khattra, Principal, and Mr Hardial Singh, Vice-President, College Governing Council, were present on the occasion.

Seminar on personality development

A seminar on personality development was organised for the students of Everest Public Senior Secondary School, Moti Nagar, here yesterday.

On the occasion, Mr Rajinder Sharma, director, told the students to be confident about themselves.

Besides, all round best students of each class were selected on the basis of their overall performance and given medals by Ms Shashi Sharma, vice-principal of the school.

School teachers hold dharna

On the call of the district unit of the Government School Teachers Union, hundreds of teachers held a dharna protesting against the government policy to privatise education. Stating this in a press note, Mr Jagmel Singh Pakhowal, said that the union demanded filling of 35,000 posts of teacher in government schools through regular appointments.

Gurmat camp

The Directorate of Education and Training, a wing of Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle, organised a gurmat camp at Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha, Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir, yesterday. Over 170 students between the age group of 15 to 25 years participated in the camp.

Fashion show at Nehru Siddhant Kendra

Fusion-2001, a colourful fashion show, jointly organised by the Diamond Card and Ayur Herbal Products was held at Nehru Siddhant Kendra last evening.

The venue was packed to its capacity and the crowd, mostly the younger generation, was enthusiastic to see the budding models sashaying down the ramp.

The models from Delhi and Chandigarh walked on the ramp wearing bright coloured Indian as well as western outfits. The models included Candy Brar, Kritika, Jaspreet Dhillon, Ravina, Sandhya, Sachin Mahajan, Aditya Sharma, Sharad and Deepak Kapoor.

These models walked on the ramp in minis, micro minis, wrap-arounds and in traditional Punjabi attire, salwar-kameez, with bright coloured phulkaris. Some of the models were carrying hats on their heads.

The members of dance troupe Best-17 performed very well on various Hindi and Punjabi numbers. The compere of the show were Payal Sharma and Sukhminder Singh. Mr Chander Shekhar, Inspector General Police was the chief guest on the occasion.
