Blackwill claims intelligence successes
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, October 5
The USA’s Ambassador here, Mr Robert D. Blackwill, today dropped hints of his country making intelligence successes in its search for Osama bin Laden and made it clear that right now America was concentrating on Bin Laden and his terrorist network Al-Qaida.

Talking to reporters, Mr Blackwill said, “Our job as an international community is not finished when we have taken care of Bin Laden. We would continue till all terrorist camps in Afghanistan are snuffed out.”

He parried questions whether the USA would take action against Pakistan-sponsored terrorism and commented that “we are not going to ask India to pay a price for cooperation between the USA and Pakistan.” He, however, added that the USA was not going to take any action with respect to Pakistan and praised General Musharraf for his bold stand to support America in its campaign against terrorism.

Saying that the war on terrorism had to be global, he remarked: “You can’t give a moral argument saying that terrorism is terrible over their part and not over here. If there are sanctuaries of terrorists where they can go and hide, they will plan more terrorist attacks against humanity. This is a global struggle. It has to be conducted through a coalition.”

Mr Blackwill said India was a part in war against terrorism and added that Secretary of State Colin Powell had made it clear when he met External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh in Washington earlier this week that the kind of terrorist act that occurred in Srinagar a few days ago was exactly the kind of terrorism that the international community must fight.

The American envoy said this war on terrorism would be very long and very different.Back
