Fine batting by Charandeep,
Amarpal Ludhiana, October 9 Despite Chinton Sehgal’s fine batting (93), team of SAN Jain Senior Secondary School was 183 all out after 38.2 overs. For Sargodha National Public School, Charandeep and Yogesh took three wickets each for 28 and 40 runs, respectively. A fine batting performance by Charandeep and Amarpal Singh helped Sargodha National Public School to overhaul SAN Jain Senior Secondary School ’s total in 36 overs. Charandeep remained not out on 64, while Amarpal Singh made 55. They also shared a 93-run partnership for the third wicket. Dushyant Kohli and Yogesh contributed 17 and 18 runs, respectively. Today’s match was inaugurated by Mr Suresh Gupta, a local industrialist. Tomorrow, in the fifth match of the tournament Sacred Heart Convent Senior Secondary School, Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar, will play against SAN Jain Senior Secondary School. Cycling meet All arrangements have been made for the All-India Inter-Varsity Cycling Championship, which begins at Punjab Agricultural University here tomorrow, according to Mr J.S. Toor, Director, Students Welfare, PAU. The boarding and lodging arrangements for the participants have been made in university hostels. More than 20 teams (men and women) drawn from different universities from all over the country will take part in the five-day championship. Mr Kirpal Singh Aulakh, Vice-Chancellor, PAU, will inaugurate the championship at 10.30 a.m. |
Special scheme for rural funds
mooted Fatehgarh Sahib, October 9 This was announced by Mr Nirmal Singh Kahlon, Rural Development and Panchayat Minister, Punjab, today while addressing a gathering at Ghumandgarh village, 8 km from here, after laying the stone of a new linkroad and formally inaugurating the upgraded Government High School in the village. Mr Kahlon said under the present SAD-BJP government in Punjab, the state had seen great development and to further boost the process, funds worth Rs 3,000 crore were being spent on big infrastructural projects, including the four-laning of main roads, construction of bridges, hospital buildings etc. He said to ensure quality in development projects, the panchayats have been involved in the process. The minister said transparency had been brought in the utilisation of the grants to prevent diversion of the government funds. He accused the previous Congress government in the state for ignoring the development of the state and said the Congress had robbed the funds. The minister said the education system in the state had been revamped and during the last four years 1600 government schools had been upgraded. He said two schools in the block would be developed as model schools, where different wings of commerce, science and sports education would be provided and the medium of teaching would be English in these schools. Mr Kahlon announced a grant of Rs 1.5 lakh for the school building, one lakh each for pavement of streets and drainage and Rs 25,000 for development of the village pond. |
