Bathinda, October 10
The police today registered a case against Dr Ramesh Thukral, owner of a private hospital, Dr Sham Lal Thukral, Dr R.P. Singh (both employees of local civil hospital), Dr Rakhi Juneja and nurse Jasvir Kaur allegedly for removing the kidney of a woman while she was operated upon for the removal of a tumour from spleen.

The case was registered under Section 338 of the IPC for causing injuries to the patient due to negligence.

On September 8, Harjinder Kaur, of Guru Nanak Dev Thermal Plant (GNDTP) colony, was operated upon in Dr Ramesh Rani Thukral’s hospital for removal of a tumour from her spleen. However, the doctors who performed the surgery removed her kidney without taking her consent for it.

Harjinder Kaur came to know about the removal of her kidney when her condition after the operation worsened. She approached the doctor who told that her kidney had been removed.

Harjinder Kaur was in serious condition and went for treatment at the PGI, Chandigarh to save her life. Mrs Surjeet Kaur, mother-in-law of Harjinder Kaur, complained to the police demanding action against those involved in the ‘crime’.

Various social and employee organisations also organised demonstration demanding justice for victim, Harjinder Kaur, whose life had been shortened by the accused doctors.

Dr Jatinder Kumar Jain, SSP, said that police started inquiry into the matter when it came to know about the incident. He added that after something wrong was found against the above said accused, a case was registered against them.

He added that premises of those against whom case had been registered, were being raided. No arrest had been made so far.

Unconfirmed reports said that Dr Ramesh Rani Thukral, her husband Dr Sham Lal Thukral, Dr R.P. Singh could not know the fact that they had removed kidney of the patient and they came to know about it only from a Patiala-based laboratory as they were told that they had sent the kidney and not tumour of spleen for examination.

After the accused came to know about the blunder they started fabricating the things and tried to cover up their misdeed. The accused even tried to use the influence of ruling politicians to hush up the matter.

Dr Ramesh Rani Thukral, denying all these charges alleged that vested interests were trying to extract ‘undue’ benefits from her through blackmailing. She claimed that kidney was removed to save the life of patient as it was damaged, displaced and had pus.

She claimed that even attendants of Harjinder Kaur called another surgeon for removing the kidney on their own.Back
