Bharucha to be next CJI

New Delhi, October 11
Mr Justice Sam Piroj Bharucha, the seniormost judge of the Supreme Court, has been appointed the next Chief Justice of India (CJI) with effect from November 1.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by Clause (2) of Article 124 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Mr Justice Sam Piroj Bharucha, judge of the Supreme Court, to be the next Chief Justice of India with effect from November 1, 2001. He will succeed Mr Justice A.S. Anand, who retires on October 31”, a press note said today.Back

 

 

Season’s first snow in Kashmir

Srinagar, October 11
The high altitude mountain ranges surrounding Kashmir valley received the first snow, official reports received, here said. The reports said 2 feet of snowfall had accumulated on the upper reaches of Tulu and Gurez in north Kashmir, which experienced snow since last night.

The weather in the plains was cloudy. It rained at some places in Kupwara and Baramula districts. Upper reaches of Gulmarg, Yousmarg and Pahalgam also witnessed the season’s first snow. UNIBack
