A very thin line divides love and hate and love and attraction. It is important to understand the meaning of the phrase to identify its appearance in our dreams. When we use the term ‘lover’ in dreams we are not dealing with youthful cases of infatuation and idolism for heroes and heroines or classmates and teachers. Here, we are dealing with more mature feelings and relationships.

In Indian texts, we surprisingly find lots of reference to sex in dreams but very less to matters of love as a symbol in dreams. To bid farewell to your loved one in your dreams predicts difficult times ahead for the dreamer. To leave a loved one for good prophesises that you shall lose a precious item of great value to you. Should a woman see that her lover has offered marriage to her, it predicts that her marriage shall get greatly delayed and there are chances that she might stay single all her life. Should you dream that you run away with your lover to get married, then you shall face lots of disappointment in real life. If a woman sees that her lover is making love to her and she is not yet married to him, she should beware of her emotions getting the better of her and putting her in a difficult situation. But meeting your lover and feeling happiness in your dreams is a good omen.

To dream of loving any object denotes satisfaction with your present environment, as per western thought. Should you see that your love fails and does not get reciprocated, you will be filled with foreboding and disappointments regarding your prevailing lifestyle or a particular relationship. For a husband or wife to dream that their spouse is loving foretells great happiness and a satisfactory family life. Should you dream of being loved by your parents, then it foretells uprightness of character and progress towards fortune and elevation in your professional life. Should you see that you love your pet and it in turn reciprocates that feeling, then you shall temporarily be blessed with fortune. To get to the core of things, it is often necessary in dreams to overlook the symbols and concentrate on the motions involved. Dreams of love are often a wish-fulfilment or the result of neglect.

Adolescents love dreams are often wish-fulfilment if they deal with someone of the opposite sex.

But should a person dream that he is immensely loved by his parents, or that he loves his parents or peers immensely, it could portray either the desire to win that sort of love or on the contrary, a hidden feeling of hatred which is replaced as a defense mechanism with a totally opposite emotion.

Such kind of feelings often trouble children suffering from Oedipus complexes or those who have had a bad experience with either of the parents, such as incest or child violence.
