Nursing exam: officials’ hand in ‘irregularities’ SAS Nagar, October 14 They said a number of nursing colleges,
affiliated with the council were not following the Indian Nursing Council norms like the land for a nursing college, the qualification and experience of the teaching faculty. The sources said over the years the papers of different subjects of nursing were “leaked” systematically and that ,too, with the knowledge of senior officials of the Health Department. On the condition of anonymity, a nursing student said prior to the examination, the paper of a subject was “available” for Rs 4000. When contacted, the Director Health Services, Dr G.S. Preet, said the reports of paper being leaked had come to his knowledge for the first time, “When the information of paper leakage came to his knowledge on September 28, the paper was immediately cancelled and a Deputy Director was entrusted to conduct a thorough inquiry in the matter”, he said adding that before taking any action against the erring officials, the health authorities wanted to
thoroughly investigate the matter. The inquiry report was expected within a day or two. On the issue of the nursing schools not following the norms, he said guilty would not be spared. |

CME programme at Command Hospital Chandigarh, October 14 A number of experts from military hospitals as well as civilian institutions made various presentations on old-age disorders as well as their management. Highlighting aspects of facial rejuvenation in the elderly, Lt-Col T. S. Bhatti said new and effective procedures for aesthetic surgery could help individuals maintain a healthy and youthful appearance even as they aged chronologically. Col D.P. Vats spoke on glaucoma in the elderly, wherein intraocular pressure rises beyond the tolerance limits of eye tissue, leading to irreversible optic nerve damage and loss of vision. In his talk on cardiac surgery in the elderly, Dr Harinder Singh Bedi from Fortis Heart Institute, SAS Nagar, advocated an aggressive, proactive approach in managing cardiac diseases in the elderly. A session on benign prostatic hyperplasia, in which several papers were presented, was also
organised. |

Football championship: SD Public School, Sector 32 will cross swords with Sanjay Public Senior Secondary School, Sector 44, in the finals tomorrow at the Chandigarh Junior Football Championship for SD trophy to be played on Panjab University grounds. In the first semi-final played here today, SD Public School, Sector 32 faced stiff resistance from DAV Senior Secondary School, Sector 8, before winning by 5-4 in a tie breaker. Both teams failed to score any goal in the stipulated time period. In the second semi-final, Sanjay Public School-44 was given a tough fight in the first half by spirited team of St Xavier’s Senior Secondary School, Sector 44. No goals were scored in the first half. Sanjay boys scored four goals in the second half after a variation in their game. Goals were scored in the 41st, 52nd, 63rd and 66th minute of the match. Teams selected: The Chandigarh Basketball Association has selected 12-member team, each in the boys and girls section, for the 18th National Youth Basketball Championship to be held at Indore, said Mr A.S. Yadav, general secretary of the association. AMBALA School meet concludes: The 36th Haryana State School Championship concluded at War Heroes Memorial Stadium. Ambala girl gymnasts dominated the championship by winning several events. In boys, upto 19 years, the team championship was won by Gurgaon, while Bhiwani was in the second place. Sonepat stood third. All round best gymnast was Devender of Bhiwani, while Bansi Saini of Gurgaon was second and Vikram of Gurgaon was third. In girls, up to 19 years, the team championship was won by Ambala, while Rohtak was second and Rai was third. All round best gymnast was Jyoti Kaushal, followed by Jyoti Ch in second place and Yogita in the third. In boys, up to 17 years, the team championship was won by Yamunanagar followed by Bhiwani in the second place, while Gurgaon stood third. All round best gymnast was Pardeep of Ambala, Rajender of Yamunanagar was second, while Satender of Rai was third. Small savings scheme popular among senior citizens Panchkula, October 14 This was stated by Ms Jyoti Arora, Deputy Commissioner, in a press note here recently. She said that monthly income scheme, under the small savings, was most popular among senior citizens and retired persons. An investor got 9.5 per cent interest on monthly basis and 10 per cent bonus after the invested money on competition of six years. While appealing the people to invest in Kisan Vikas Patra and National Savings Certificate schemes, she said that money doubled within a gap of seven years and three months in Kisan Vikas Patra. Similarly invested money under National Savings Certificate Scheme fetched an interest at the rate of 9.5 per cent and the invested money almost doubled in six years. Investments made under this scheme were exempted under Section 88 of the Income Tax Act. |

Archaeological survey
for temple’s renovation Panchkula, October 14 A devotee, Mr Vishnu Goyal, has offered to finance the project for the displaced dome of the temple and prepared estimates which have been forwarded to the government for its approval. While it was earlier recommended to demolish the dome of the temple, the oldest building on the Mansa Devi shrine complex, the Archaeological Survey of India has now recommended the preservation of the “ancient heritage”. In its recommendation to the Chief Minister, the survey has asked for the renovation of the dome. |
