City gets neuro and trauma centre

Ludhiana, October 14
Sobti Neuro and Trauma Centre, a super speciality hospital, set up by Dr M.K. Sobti, a noted neuro-surgeon and former Head, Department of Neuro-Surgery at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital here, was formally opened to patients here today. The opening ceremony was attended by distinguished persons.

Dr Sobti said that the centre would have facilities for vascular neurosurgery for the first time in the region. The other super specialities like neurosurgery, plastic and cosmetic surgery, orthopaedic surgery, cardiology and urology surgery would also be available.

Prominent among those present at the function were Mr Chander Shekhar, IG, Punjab police; Mr Hardeep Singh Dhillon, DIG, Ferozepore Range, Mr Raminder Singh, MC Additional Commissioner, Dr Karamjit Singh, MC, Additional Commissioner, Mr K.K. Kapila, Commissioner of Income Tax, Mr Buta Singh, Assistant Commissioner, Income Tax, Dr L.S. Winter school on toxicology at PAU

Ludhiana, October 14
A winter school on ‘Advances in Clinical Toxicology’ with special reference to environmental and industrial toxicants is being organised from October 16 to November 5 by the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) here.

Dr A.K. Srivastava, Director, winter school, said scientists from the PAU and different state agricultural universities in the country would participate. He said the course would include advance training, lectures and practical demonstrations of new techniques by experts and eminent scientists throughout the country.

Cricket Academy beat Khalsa College

A fine allround display by Harry (45 runs and 3 for 22) and useful innings by Amrit Pal (45) and Jasdeep Singh (31) helped the Nursery of Cricket Academy beat GGN Khalsa College by 22 runs in an exhibition cricket match played at the GGN Khalsa College ground here today.

Batting first, the Nursery of Cricket Academy were all out for 202 runs. GGN Khalsa College’s innings, despite Gurmeet Singh’s 57 and Rubel’s 23 folded at 180 runs, falling short of the target by 23 runs.

Brief scores: Nursery of Cricket Academy 202 all out (Harry 45, Amrit Pal 45, Jasdeep Singh 31, Channa 3 for 40 and Rubel 2 for 28). GGN Khalsa College 180 all out (Gurmeet Singh 57, Rubel 23, Daman 3 for 30, Vijay Pal 3 for 35 and Harry 3 for 22).

Inter-school Match: Baba Isher Singh Senior Secondary School prevailed over BCM Arya Senior Scondary School by 7 runs in an inter-school cricket match played at BCM School ground here yesterday.

Baba Isher Singh Senior Secondary School won the toss and elected to bat first. They made 210 for 7 in the stipulated 25 overs with main contributions coming through Amrit Pal 75 which included one six and 10 boundaries. Gurdish Singh contributed 52 runs. For BCM School Shekhar grabbed three wickets conceding 41 runs.

In reply, BCM Senior Secondary School were all out for 203 after 20 overs. Sunny made 62, Shekhar and Ravi too batted well contributing 42 and 23 runs, respectively. The main wicket takers for Baba Isher Singh Senior Secondary School were Parambir Singh 3 for 27, Sukhmeet 2 for 12 and Puneet 2 for 31.Back

 

Rural sports council award for three

The first “Rashtriya Khed Rattan’ award will be given to Mr Amarjit Singh Grewal and Mr Joginder Singh. A decision in this regard was taken at a meeting of the Punjab Rural Sports Council (PRSC) held with the council president, Mr Prithipal Singh Batala, in the chair, here yesterday.

A spokesman of the council, Mr Harjinder Singh Sarihn, said a ceremony would be organised here at the Nehru Sidhant Centre on November 10. Mr Amarjit Singh Grewal, a sports promoter, one of the founders of PRSC and producer, Doordarshan Kendra, Jalandhar who died last year, will be honoured posthumously and also Mr Joginder Singh, a pioneer of Kila Rai Pur Sports Festival. A citation and a cash prize of Rs 21000 will be given.

The schedule for different rural sports events to be held under the ageis of this council was also finalised. The Amritsar Shere Punjab Football Tournament will be held from October 25 to 28. Other events are Kamaljit Memorial Sports Mela at Kotla village Sahian from November 28 to 30 and Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha Memorial Tournament from November 11 to 15. Back
