Sports carnival from Oct 20

Ludhiana, October 18
A three-day sports carnival will be organised by the Sutlej Club, Ludhiana, from October 20 to 22. The carnival will be inaugurated on October 20 at 4.30 p.m. and the prize distribution function will be held on October 22 at 8 p.m.

According to a press note issued jointly by Mr A.S. Chawla and Mr Navneet Malhotra, general secretary and sports secretary, respectively, of the club, this carnival will not only provide high pitched entertainment to the club members and their dependants, but also due recognition to talent in the field of snooker, badminton, lawn tennis and table tennis. This year an added attraction to this carnival will be a new event, ‘Mr Sutlej Club 2001,’ which will take the best of our new generation of youngsters, the note said.

The note further said that as the Children’s Day is coinciding with Divali, events October 21 would be organised specially for children, dependants and ladies. The events like fun athletics, painting competition ( categories 4-6 yrs, 7-9 yrs and 10-12 yrs), fancy dress competition ( 3-14 yrs ), video games and magic show are few of the highlights of this sports carnival. Last date for submitting entries is October, 19.

Ludhiana TT team announced

The following paddlers have been selected to represent the city in the 42nd Punjab State Inter-District and Open Table Tennis Championship scheduled to be held here at the Shastri Indoor Hall of Guru Nanak Stadium from October 23 to 28, according to a press note issued today by Mr Fang Jenn Chiu, honorary secretary, Ludhiana District Table Tennis Association.

The names of the team are: cadet boys — Sahil Sharma, Simarpreet Singh, Dharminder, Jagdeep Singh and Jaideep Singh (reserve); cadet girls — Nishu Sood, Garima, Sheweta and Kirti; sub-junior boys — Sahil Sharma, Sun Ming, Simarpreet Singh and Dharminder; sub-junior girls — Priyanka Verma, Nirdosh Sood, Garima and Sheweta; junior boys — Karan Sood, Atul Sharma, Sun Ming and Sahil Sharma; women — Deepshikha Sharma, Priyanka, Bhaween, Bhawana and Mamta (reserve); and men — Harman , Disney Ryait, Harminder Chopra, Bikramjit Singh and Vijay Yadav.
