Use your own logo instead of default one

WITH the continuous advancement in technologies, the acronym PC has become more of a powerful computer rather than a personal computer. The power of the PC has become such an important issue for the PC users that normally they prefer to either upgrade or buy a new computer every now and then. However, each time there is an urge for more power you need not upgrade or buy a new PC as in majority of the cases, your old PC can be given the boost with a punch of power by following some simple tips and tricks.

If you are using Windows 9X on your PC, then following is the procedure for making your PC more powerful. First of all change the "Typical role of your PC" setting in the system option of Control Panel to network server instead of the default setting of desktop system. Changing this setting from desktop system networks server, will tweak the file system performance and will thus boost the overall performance of PC.

Furthermore, you can further enhance the performance of your PC by setting the virtual file allocation table in RAM, for enabling your computer to remember twice as many files and folders as the 'Network Server' setting. However, for affecting this setting you would need some registry editing and before you start editing the registry you must take a backup of it so that you can restore it, in case something goes wrong.

If you are all set to proceed further, then first of all close all other open and running programs. Now either copy the text mentioned below or retype either in the Notepad or in any other plain text editor software.

In the Notepad, where you have copied or typed the above mentioned registry editing syntax save it as PowerPC.reg. While doing the above exercise make sure that the line starting with [HK…. Is one line without any space. Now, close the text editor and find your new REG file by right clicking the file and select Merge from the context menu. Once you have finished, restart your system and then go to the Control Panel. Click on system icon and then click on performance tab. Here you will find the setting for the typical role of the computer. By default, it will be set to desktop computer, but if you click on it, a drop-down menu will open with other options like mobile or docking system and network server. However along with this you'll also find one more option called powerful PC. Set the default setting to third that is the powerful PC option and then click OK. Now close all open Windows and restart your system. On restarting, you'll find enhancement in the performance of your PC. The increase in the performance may not be visible in all programs, but in certain programs you can make some marked improvement. However if you're not satisfied with the performance after effecting the settings then you can always change back the settings under " typical role of the computer" to network server or desktop computer as per your choice. This is a real tweak to boost the performance of your PC.

Good performance of the PC is also very essential in case of the Internet. Today, since the Internet comprises of the major use of the computer, the best possible Internet performance is the main objective of all computer users. For the optimal performance of your PC for your Internet, you do not just need good hardware but also need to tweak your computer. However, it would involve adjusting your communication settings in the SYSTEM.INI file. So, it is desirable to take a back up of your SYSTEM.INI file before you attempt to edit it.

For boosting the communication performance of your PC, first of all in the SYSTEM.INI file add these lines to the [386Enh] section. 1. CommBuffer=512 ( the default value is 128 bytes). Changing the setting to a higher value will boost the data traffic using your modem and this setting will do good for all modems whether internal or external having speed higher than 9600 baud. Under the second setting, change the CommBoostTime=20 (the default setting is 2 miliseconds). This setting is also very important, as it will help in stabilising the Transfer Rate for high speed modems. So in the way, this setting will help in reducing the problem of tool often disconnection. Under the third setting, set the value for ComAutoAssign=1. Here the value of 1 signifies on, whereas 0 signifies off. Under this setting changing the value of ComAutoAssign=1 or on will prompt you for choice between the videos communication programs that you might be using on your computer. This is a good setting, which ensure loading of correct settings for particular program, which you're going to use for communicating.

Often, many persons believe in doing things differently and for satisfying their urge of being different from others, they explore the various ways of being different. The computer users too fall in this category as many computer users ask us, the trick to change the logging on and logging off screen of the Windows operating system. Some computer users also want to use the logo of their company in place of the default Windows logo, which you see when the Windows load on your computer. The trick for changing this screen is simple. However, before we proceed with the trick it is advised that you take a backup of your registry. Now, for changing the Windows startup screen, simply go to your Windows directory and locate the file logo.sys. This file basically represents the Windows start up logo. Now rename this file with .bak extension i.e. logo.bak. Choose any bitmap file (*.bmp) that you wish to use as your startup screen and save it as logo.sys in the same destination. However, in order to be a logofile make sure that the bitmapped files must be 320 x 400 pixels. Similarly you can also change the Windows log off file called logow.sys ("wait while…), and logos.sys ( "It is now safe…) to the customised logo or image of your choice by following the above mentioned procedure.

However, in case you wish to restore your original setting i.e. the original logo files, then you can simply do so by renaming the original files saved as .bak files back as .sys files.
