for an end to US military mission in Afghanistan before Ramazan finds no
takers in the Bush administration. Official reckoning is that the battle
may continue well into the spring and beyond.
Charges
against 11 framed in Phoolan murder case
New Delhi, October 23
At a hearing after 90 days of the
incident, the Delhi Police today chargesheeted 11 persons in connection
with the sensational day light murder of Samajwadi Party MP Phoolen Devi
outside her residence at 44 Ashoka Road on July 25.

Govt gets power
to suspend passports
New Delhi, October 23
The government today promulgated an ordinance under which the Centre and
the state governments can suspend the passport and travel documents of
any citizen suspected to be belonging to terrorist, militant, subversive
and other anti-national organisations.

to a rousing welcome here today. Hundreds of hockey fans, sports
officials and media persons thronged the Palam Airport in New Delhi as
12 members of the Indian squad arrived from Mumbai.
