Jaish ultra killed in attack on police station

One militant of the Jaish-e-Mohammad was killed and three security force personnel were injured when a two member suicide squad attacked the Chadoora police station at Budgam this morning. A block president of the ruling National Conference (NC) was also killed by unidentified gunmen here last evening.

The police said the suicide squad members hurled a grenade and followed it by firing on guards at the Chadoora police station 20 km from here, at 5 a.m. today. Alert jawans of the police, CRPF, BSF and Army, however, repulsed the attack and engaged the militants in an hour-long fight. One militant was killed while another managed to escape.

An AK rifle, three grenades and three magazines were recovered from the site of the encounter.

A note recovered from the slain militant reads the JeM intended to dismember India and thereafter cause havoc in the USA, a police statement said.

The note also claimed that the JeM was successful in its efforts to disintegrate the erstwhile Soviet Union, it said.

In another incident, a foreign mercenary was killed in an encounter with the BSF in the Karan Nagar area last evening.

Gunmen shot a block president of the NC, Merajuddin, in the Maisuma locality of the Lal Chowk area list evening.

The militants hurled a hand grenade towards the security forces near Badyari Chowk at Dalgate today, official sources said. However, the grenade missed its intended target and exploded on the roadside, injuring five pedestrians and a traffic head constable.

Ultras shot at and critically wounded a counter insurgent, Fayaz Ahmed Sheikh, near Janglat Mandi in south Kashmir this afternoon. He was declared brought dead in hospital.

The spokesperson said a militant shot at and injured one Mohammad Shafi Dar at Panzgam in south Anantnag district last evening.

The security forces gunned a militant each at Kandi Kupwara and Kulgam in south Kashmir last evening and recovered some arms and ammunition.

The police today recovered the body of Qasim Khatana in Larnoon forest of Anantnag.

The militants kidnapped two persons from Wali Dhok in Poonch district of Jammu region last night. Two militants of the Kamait-ul-Mujahideen were arrested at Rainawari last evening.

5 militants killed

Jammu: Four militants, part of a group trying to exfiltrate to Pakistan, were slain by the Army near the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district today.

Troops foiled another exfiltration attempt last night in the same district and killed a militant.

A Defence spokesperson said troops sighted militants in Bimber Gali (BG) sector and challenged them, only to be met with heavy fire.

A gun battle followed, in which four militants were killed. The encounter was still on when reports last came in.

The Army foiled an exfiltration bid by eight militants last night, and killed one militant, the spokesperson added. UNIBack
