Mobile health services in Nuh
Tribune News Service

Nuh (Gurgaon), October 26
Mohammad Himmat(80) of village Muradwas of Nuh Block, whose family falls in ‘below the poverty’ line benchmark of economic status, is a happy person.

The reason is the health and nutritional mobile services that would now be offered to him in his village by the Mewat Development Agency(MDA).

The MDA responsible for the overall welfare of the people of Mewat area, inaugurated the mobile service programme for Nuh and Taoru Blocks here yesterday under its vision ‘Healthier Mewat’.

The Chairman of MDA, Mr S.A. Khan, said that the programme would be run by the voluntary organisations under the aegis of MDA. As per the programme, five villages of each of the six blocks of Mewat will be visited by a mobile service van each day along with five doctors from different disciplines, paramedics and medicines.

The plan is to cover 180 villages in a year. While five of the blocks fall in Gurgaon, Hathin falls in Faridabad district.

The funding for the project has been done by an international agency, International Funding for Agriculture Development. The agency has provided Rs 78 lakhs for the programme.

The Haryana Government, to start with, has provided Rs 2 lakhs for the purchase of medicines for the programme. Nuh and Taoru Blocks will be covered in the first phase of programme. It will be completed in the remaining ones in three phases.

Inaugurating the programme, the Minister of Health, Haryana, Dr Munni Lal Ranga, said that the thrust would not only be on providing health services free of charge, but also to make the people of the area more health conscious.

The move is considered to be revolutionary and could have a bearing on the people of Mewat considered to be the most backward area of Haryana.

One of the societal problems of Mewat is supposed to be that people do not have much faith in allopathic medicines.

The general feeling is that the society, predominantly consisting of Meo Muslims, is rooted in superstitious beliefs like intervention by supernatural forces.
